I live in upstate NY and have a lot of maple trees, can the sweeper pick up wet leaves in the fall.
Tow-behind sweepers generally aren’t designed to perform well in wet conditions. When leaves are damp, they tend to mat down and become significantly heavier, making them difficult for the brushes to lift effectively. In addition, the drive wheels can lose traction on wet surfaces, which reduces brush rotation and overall pickup performance. Wet leaves also add considerable weight, which can strain the bag and frame and prevent the hopper from filling to its intended capacity. That said, Ohio Steel sweepers still perform well even in less-than-ideal conditions. If you do choose to use the sweeper with damp material, we recommend limiting the hopper to about one-third of its normal capacity and emptying it more frequently to avoid excess strain on the unit.
Is this compatible with a John Deere lawn tractor?
Yes. This lawn sweeper is compatible with any riding mower, zero-turn mower or ATV equipped with a rear pin hitch receiver.
Will this pickup acorns?
This lawn sweeper will pick up acorns that are on the surface of the turf and not embedded deep into long grass.
Will it pick up pine cones
Yes. Ohio Steel Lawn Sweepers will pick up most pine cones. Some pines that don’t open can become heavier than others due to moisture content. The sweeper may not pick these up due to the extra weight.
Does this unit "fold up" for compact storage? I have a small area to store it.
The bag easily disconnects from the main sweeper by pulling two pins and then folds to 51"W x 36"L x 10"H (deep) after removal of the tension tube (simple thumb screw). The bag can then be hung on the wall. Below the bag/bag frame, move the main sweeper unit against the wall of your shed and lean the folded drawbar against the floor. The dimensions of this part of the sweeper in this orientation is 54.4"W x 17.9"L x 17.75"H (deep).
How is this over uneven terrain?
This sweeper works great on most residential lawns. Some people use it in large fields and understand that it may miss some areas that are uneven and will go back if those areas in a different direction.
Will this work with a zero turn mower that has a hitch?
Yes absolutely! Just be cautious to remember not to use the zero turn function of the mower while towing.

42 in. 24 cu. ft. Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper
John Deere 42 in. tow-behind lawn sweeper collects leaves and grass clippings with it's powerful brushes for a clean sweep the first time through. It's 42 in. wide sweeping path and extra large hamper provides 1-pass performance every time. The patented self-storing feature allows the sweeper to hang or stand upright, providing for compact storage when not in use. The included full-length Windscreen ensures that all material is retained and nothing is thrown over the top of the hamper, while the T-handle dump cord means you can empty the hamper right from the tractor seat. Consistent brush to ground contact prevents the unit from "skipping" and leaving leaves and grass clippings on the lawn. This is accomplished by reducing Tip Lift-the time and distance that the brushes lift off the surface of the lawn between strokes. Incorporating six brush sections, brush to ground contact is significantly improved over traditional 4-brush designs.
