We do not recommend installing Brickwebb® Thin Brick Sheets directly to a drywall ceiling. Thin brick and mortar add significant weight, and standard drywall ceilings are not designed to support this type of adhered masonry finish.
Yes, Castle Gate Thin Brick can be used in a sauna, but it should not be installed in direct contact with the wood stove, flue pipe, or other surfaces that reach extremely high temperatures. The fired clay brick itself handles heat well, but the performance of the installation also depends on the adhesive, grout, and the required clearances from the heat source. If you're installing the brick around a hot water tank or on nearby walls, be sure to: Install over a suitable, heat-resistant substrate. Use setting materials that are appropriate for the expected temperatures. Follow the wood stove manufacturer's required clearances to combustible and non-combustible materials.
Yes! Brickwebb® Castle Gate Thin Brick Sheets are made from the same real clay thin bricks as our individual thin brick products, so they can be mixed in the same installation. The sheet-mounted bricks and individual bricks are designed to match in color, texture, and size, making it easy to use the sheets for the main field and individual bricks for cuts, edges, or custom details. If you're trying to match an existing full-size brick wall, the appearance will be very similar, but keep in mind that thin brick is approximately 1/2 inch thick, whereas full-size brick is typically around 3-5/8 inches thick.
We do not recommend installing directly over pressure treated plywood. Why not pressure treated plywood? Pressure treated wood can: Warp, shrink, and move as it dries Contain chemicals that can affect adhesion Lead to bond failure over time, especially in exterior conditions Recommended Approach (Best Practice) For a successful exterior installation, we recommend building out a proper substrate: Start with your framing + sheathing (plywood or OSB) Install a weather-resistant barrier (house wrap like Tyvek) Apply Old Mill Air & Water Barrier (for a continuous seal) Install one of the following approved substrates: Cement board (HardieBacker, etc.) Or use our Panel+ system for a full exterior solution Then apply: Old Mill Adhesive Thin brick (Brickwebb or singles) Type S mortar or grout If You Already Have Pressure Treated Plywood If it’s already installed, the key is: Do NOT apply brick directly to it Instead, cover it with: Exterior-rated cement board properly fastened through to framing Then proceed with the system above
Yes our brick can be used outdoors as flooring on top of concrete. The best material is type S mortar.
Yes
For Brickwebb (including the Castle Gate sheets), you’ll use two different materials, one for setting the brick and one for the joints: 1. To install (adhesive): Use a modified thin-set mortar (mixed to a peanut butter consistency) This is what bonds the Brickwebb sheets to the wall or surface 2. To fill joints (grout): Use Type S mortar or a sanded tile grout This is applied after the brick is set to fill in between the bricks Important: Do not use Type S mortar to stick the brick to the wall, only for grouting. If you’re installing outdoors, make sure both the thin-set and grout are rated for exterior use.
Yes, Brickwebb Castle Gate Thin Brick can be painted. For best results, we recommend first applying a masonry primer such as KILZ®, followed by a high-quality masonry or latex paint. You can also use masonry stains or whitewash products to achieve different custom looks.
