About This Product

Kings Gold Thread banch Cypress is best described as a mounding evergreen shrub, continuously showing off its rich golden color and adding a rare texture to landscapes with its uniquely shaped branches and stems. Kings Gold is both colorful and compact, reaching an equal height and spread of 3 ft. to 5 ft. This unique golden shrub is also widely adaptable and was perfectly developed for hot, humid Southern gardens where other evergreens have trouble thriving and retaining their color. Although it thrives in these warmer climates, Kings Gold is also cold hardy down to at least minus 20°F. This adaptability, as well as its more rounded form is what really sets the Kings Gold apart from other Thread branch varieties. Since it stays small, colorful and requires extremely little maintenance, Kings Gold has become quite popular for small urban landscapes, sidewalk planting and even border lining next to green companion plants.

Questions & Answers

My Kings Gold Cypress arrived and it is green. Not yellow at all. Thinking I was sent the wrong plant?

Answer This Question

Sometimes these gold plants need sun to develop the gold color. I'd put it where it gets at least six hours of sun. If it's the right plant, the color should reveal itself.

Mine are getting too big for my garden. How far back can I cut it?
      ByAug 8, 2023

      Answer This Question

This shrub can be trimmed as needed to maintain the desired size and shape. There's no hard and fast rule on how far back you can cut, but avoid cutting into old wood as it may not regrow. It's generally recommended to prune lightly and often rather than severely all at once.

Is this slow-growing? What is the average growth per year?
        ByJun 28, 2020

        Answer This Question

Monrovia cited it as moderate growing, but it described everywhere as a dwarf - which I interpret to mean 'possibly slower than average' growth first 10yrs. Definitely no more than 6 inches. Everything gets to a size in time.

This says it tolerates Sun or Shade. I plan to plant it in a spot that receives no direct sunlight. Will it thrive in no direct sunlight?

          Answer This Question

I purchased 3 of these since I have a mature one already existing in my landscaping, the ones planted in shade are surveing, but the one in the sun is doing much better. On that one I can see the yellow in it and altho planted at the same time, is bigger

            What Customers Say
Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the plants generally arrive well packaged and healthy, with many appreciating the vibrant colors and good condition upon delivery. However, there are frequent mentions of the plants being smaller than expected for their advertised size, leading to some disappointment regarding value for money. Overall, while the quality of the plants is often praised, the size discrepancy is a common concern among buyers.

The product was not represented well by the picture. Almost bait and switch, not an honest means of product sales. Home Depot needs to police there vendors better. We are living in a world where the lie is an accepted practice in business. It dose not have to be that way.

              What a joke
The plant that I received was the tiniest thing. It was completley wrapped in plastic and looks like it was just transplanted to the “1 gallon” pot. It looks more appropriately sized for a 4-6 inch pot. I plan on returning this immediately and will never order from Online Orchards again

The plants arrived fresh, healthy, and well-packaged, albeit smaller than expected. The plant appears to be thriving beautifully in my front yard. The vibrant golden color adds such a stunning touch to my landscape.
