Product Overview

  • Especially rich flavor that becomes sweeter every day
  • Firm and hardy fruit can be picked at your flavor preference
  • Dark purple plums ripen in abundance, get ready to share
The Italian Plum is a fantastic, well-rounded tree that always produces a significant amount of extra sweet, dark purple, oval shaped fruit. A key benefit of Italian is that it’s everbearing, meaning the fruit keeps ripening all summer and early fall. Italian also blooms quite late for a plum tree, which is beneficial to avoid late frosts. This makes Italian ideal for colder climates where other plum trees wouldn’t survive. The Italian will stay quite small with proper care, making it easy to keep fresh fruit within arms reach. If you’re interested in a plum tree and have minimal space then Italian is an excellent choice.
  • Italian is an everbearing fruit tree meaning that plums continually ripen through the season
  • Italian tree is very low maintenance
  • Blooms quite late to avoid frost damage, making Italian a great choice for both cold and warm regions
  • Very sweet and dark purple fruit stores very well after being picked
  • Italian is self-pollinating

I planted both of them the same day they arrived. The Santa Rosa arrived with a few leaves and green buds and is slowly getting more leaves. The Italian has no signs of life at all. There are no leaves and the few buds on the branches, that were brown from the start, are dry and crumbly. I hope they will replace it under warranty. The pic was added to show the tree, NOT to enter a sweepstakes.

I planted the tree according to the instructions and have been watering it "thoroughly and often" as the instructions advised but the tree has not shown any growth. I received it severely pruned with all the branches cut. I've had it for several weeks but can't see that it is growing at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid The tree arrived in great condition. It was well packaged and the roots were bound with a gel hydration product that kept the roots nice and wet. I was surprised how solid the tree was, it does not look like something you would picture as a bare root mail order tree. The tree does not have leaves yet but it is a good solid tree with a very developed root system, so I am pretty optimistic it will do well. I was very impressed.

Tree was well packed and in good shape on arrival, but it arrived about two weeks later than the ETA indicated on the website, which interfered with planting and care for the new planting, as it arrived just as I was leaving town for nine days. I was forced to plant it hastily, and it survived solely because of the heavy rains while I was away.

I was a little concerned by my late season planting and went on-line to see how long it would take for this plum tree to start leafing out : 6 weeks. Mine started in 3 weeks.
