About This Product

The Van cherry tree is widely known to be 1 of the heaviest fruit producers out of all cherry varieties. These beautiful cherries are a deep crimson-purple in color and grow quite large in comparison to other sweet cherry varieties. Van is a precocious cherry cultivar with fruit that is sweet, juicy, and quite large. The Van tree is a modern marvel among cherries and is widely considered an improvement on the Bing cherry. Van brings all the benefits of Bing, including exceptional flavor, but it's also self-pollinating and tends to produce more pounds of fruit annually. Van is ideal for backyards because it is self-pollinating, and also due to its heavy cherry production.

Highlights

  • Van grows some of the largest sweet cherries
  • Van is self-pollinating

      Answer This Question

A:  I think they meant 144 inches not feet. But any clarification from seller would be appreciated

      by|Apr 7, 2022

A:  There is NO WAY this tree grows to 144 ft. That reply you got is outrageous. More like 12 ft as a semi dwarf or 20 + if a standard tree.

        by|Mar 15, 2022

A:  If you are asking if the mature height of this tree is 144 ft, yes, its max height is 144 ft.

              Perfect growth
I received my Van Cherry in about 9 days. I was excited to see that it had a lot of growth!!! Others I have ordered earlier in the season didn’t have growth. This one arrived further along. I had to fence it immediately due to a hungry woodchuck.

                      Patience
We picked up two trees online when they were on sale. They arrived in a box: two straight sturdy stems with nice roots wrapped in straw and plastic. Although they weren't exactly like the image shown on the website and lacked any branches, they had plenty of healthy buds. We planted on a full-sun well drained hillside with some composted horse manure mixed into the soil. After about a month they seem to be doing very well and have tons of healthy leaves showing. We hope in time those buds sill transform into branches and make the trees look less alien. Overall, they seem healthy and off to a good start. We're looking forward to how they'll appear in a year or two, just need a bit of patience.

The graft on the tree is a little different and higher on the rootstock than I expected but I think it should be a good tree if I make sure to be careful and keep that in mind when pruning later. After a month of being planted it is growing strongly and leafing out well.

Going to be a beautiful tree, I am sure. Already budding & leaves, sturdy. Very pleased so far. I was very impressed with the careful packaging. It was packed carefully in a box inside another box, & bare root was protected in plastic bag/soil.
