Asked by: cliff
Yes 1 inch is better. It would be even better if you can make a loop with the 1 inch rather than have a dead end line.

canyon adjust the flow ?
Asked by: bv
Not with this valve, because solenoid valves (like this one) are either completely on or completely off. It is usually best to use gate valves to control the flow, especially in high flow situations like irrigation. I install a gate valve after the vacuum break/back flow check valve in order to limit the inrush flow to be just a bit higher than the operation of the biggest zone. This limits the pressure changes in the building while the system is operating.

Does this valve prevent backflow into the main water line or do I need a separate device for that?

Asked by: ADLT
This does not have a back flow preventer.

Can these be opened manually (i.e., is there a bleeder or unscrew solenoid to open valve)?

Can these be opened manually (i.e., is there a bleeder or unscrew solenoid to open valve)?
Asked by: glblack
Yes, by unscrewing the solenoid a little, problem is solenoid easily becomes leaky after doing this much... I finally removed and returned mine and bought a more expensive brand.

Good thing I didn't complete the install or this would have cost me a lot of time and money to cut out and replace. If you don't have a coupler system, ALWAYS test these orbit valves (leave pressurized overnight) before completing connection on the sprinkler side so you can easily remove and take them back. Switching to another brand -- worth paying more for reliability, repairability, and stability. Valves MUST stand the test of time. Orbit, you are not getting your designs right. Homedepot made the return easy.

I have several of these in various uses, and while one could repair them forever outside of being frozen and cracked, its so well priced a new one is best - unless you are in the typical tight hole in the ground. Put a union on one end and all is good. One of these feed my 3,000 gallon tank and has been in use constantly for 12 years. Amazing. The Orbits are Chinese I believe and cost more! Avoid.

Our landscaper installed 4 of these valves. 3 have failed so far after just two months. They stick open and flood the areas they cover. Hopefully he can change out for a better brand. I have had many Rainbird auto valves and no problem for several years.
