Questions & Answers

Why only 3 start times for 4 ports?

I need each port to water at different times. The way this timer is setup two ports have to share one of three start times. Guess I'll be returning it and buying something else.
Asked by: DRev
Just so you know. The "ABC" refer to the 3 (A B C) SCHEDULES not outlets. Outlets are triggered by selecting or deselecting 1, 2, 3, or 4 from the column of numbers down the right side of the display using the + or - key . I use this timer all the time to water 4 separate areas and use 2(A and B) of the 3 provided schedules.

Can this unit be attached to a spigot that is not under cover? I had another brand that could not get wet so I had to "rig" a roof for it.

Is there any way to get all four ports to run at once?
Asked by: Aaron
Yes, but the water pressure would be too low if you are running sprinklers.

Can you have one station run continuously?

I purchased this product and set up stations (hoses) 1, 2 and 3 to each water at their own times (using start times A, B, and C respectfully). That was fairly easy (not the most intuitive, but only took a few minutes to figure out). That being said, I would like station 4 to be on continuously and not part of a timed program. However, I was not able to figure this out. The instructions point to manual usage... but only for a max of 360 minutes... and only after going to the device and selecting a manual override each time. Did I miss something?
Asked by: area211
No, The system runs one station at a time. The other option would be to have station 4 run when the others aren't. I.e. Station 1 - 30 mins, Station 2 - 30 mins, Station 3 - 30 mins, Station 4 - 6 hrs 30 mins. And set the start times as 4 AM, Noon , and 8 PM.

We bought 2 of these last fall (October) and they worked for us to water our newly seeded lawn. There was some water drainage damage that had to be fixed this spring and new seed was planted in those areas. I pulled out my sprinklers and timers back out (they were stored in the house for the winter) so that I could water the new seed, but neither timer worked. The first timer would not provide enough water pressure to even run the sprinkler. I kept everything else the same and just replaced the second timer and it worked fine on port 1. I hooked up port 2 on the second timer and it kicked on when it was supposed to, but would not turn back off. Even with nothing hooked up, port 2 would just constantly spew water out, so that timer was now useless too. This seems to be a common problem with these in reading the rest of the reviews. Not sure what recourse I have as I no longer have the receipt, but this is very poor quality especially for a timer that costs $50 each.

I chose the 4-outlet over the 2-outlet for the added ability to control two more outlets and it wads only about $10 more. Setting the timer takes a little bit of practice and I would definitely recommend reading the instructions as it isn’t super intuitive. That said, once I had it set, it works great. It comes on and shuts off exactly as I wanted it to. The only hiccup I ran into is the batteries are only 2-AAA 1.5 volt. I had some 1.2-volt rechargeable batteries but the low power indicator kept coming on and it would not work. Even though they were fully charged. I ended up purchasing some 1.5-volt single use batteries. After that, it has worked great! That said, I think it would make more sense to have AA batteries as I wonder how long the AAA will last. I do, however, like the feature of the removable controls. That makes it so you can set the controls without having to mess with the hoses.

It seemed to work fine at the time I initially installed it. . I use it for a soaker hose set up to keep my foundation moist in Dallas Ft. Worth. When the weather started to get cold for the winter I turned off the water supply but left the timer on so that it would drain the unit the next time the cycle ran. I ran it three times a day. I turned the water supply off and took the control head in the house. This Spring, I placed the control head on the unit and turned on the water supply. To my surprise water just ran out of the bottom of the unit. There was no water in the unit when I shut it down for Winter and the temp in Desoto Texas never was below Zero that I recall. However, no water to the unit. I had an older Orbit 4 valve unit that I also bought at Home Depot and never had any issues for about 7 or 8 years. Did a wonderful job until it eventually wore. Even took it apart several times and cleaned the calcium deposits out of this. This new version seems like a cheap and unreliable replacement for the older version. Very disapointed.

I'm a contractor and have used Orbit products for many years for my own house and for my customers. I have bought and installed various Orbit timers in the past. I just installed this model at my own house and it works perfectly. However, I admit that the programming instruction for this item is terrible and confusing for ordinary people who buy these types of products for the 1st time. In the owner's manual, the manufacturer should give several examples of how this can be programmed for various scenarios as people have different programming needs. I also suggest to people who need help, to call Orbit's customer service at 800-488-6156. They will walk you through the specific programming you need. Most of the bad reviews this product has received are due to difficulties associated with programming this device!

It makes it easy to cater to the different needs of various parts of our yard and does so automatically. It's reliable and relatively easy to set up. A couple things I didn't care for: 1. The programming instructions are absolutely terrible. Their youtube video instructions are better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVeqawfqm20 2. This thing is heavy and comes with a metal spike to aid in installation which is awkward. Because of the location of our spigot, we used a short hose to go from the spigot to the timer and laid it on the ground instead. 3. The hose outlets are plastic. I don't have to unhook the set up often, but I don't expect the threads to last too long.

It seems I'm not the only one who was baffled by the 3-station / 4-outlet system...why not a 4-station / 4-outlet system so one can create a setting for each outlet separately. This seems like a terrible product design flaw or a cheap way to cut corners...I would have been happy to pay an extra 5 or 10 buck for the added feature. Thanks to all who provided a work around solution to the 3-4 "math" problem...I will have to try setting each outlet to run on different times instead of trying to set on different days on same time for each outlet. Besides the station-outlet system issue, the product works well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to Program This battery operated Orbit timer is easy to program and therefore easy to use in that aspect. It is very light in material construction, and the outlets are all resin plastic 3/4 in. hose thread. My choice was to use as many Orbit fittings to build a drip irrigation manifold for some flowers and plants. The output from the timer is very accurate, the manual mode and all other aspects of this timer are almost identical to the powered irrigation station timers used to control solenoid controlled valving. After testing this system for several days I feel that it should function well for a long time as long as it is maintained and protected from the elements. I have witnessed that the screen is already starting to darken from being exposed to direct sunlight. I'm also concerned that overtime with exposure to the extremes of temperature (heat) that the body of the casing will start to warp and disfigure. Also there is no "seal" for the contacts between the removable timer and the watering system. I believe I will be covering/shielding this unit from the elements so it will last.
