Haven 2 ft. x 4 ft. Natural Cedar Elevated Garden Bed with Shelf (Vinyl Legs)

We had high hopes when purchasing these planters. The size was perfect. But as we put them together they were very flimsy. The legs are made out of plastic and the boards just slide in the slots. And that was before we planted anything in them. They do not hold their shape and the shifting causes the bottom slats to shift. Luckily we had lined the boxes and were able to save our seedlings. There’s got to be better options for the money. Please don’t waste your time or money on these.

This planter was easy to assemble and looks beautiful filled with lots of veggies and herbs.

I think you will be very pleased with this Outdoor Essentials Elevated Garden Planter once it is assembled. The compact 2’x2’ size is great for utilizing smaller areas for gardening such as decks, terraces or roof gardens. The 31-3/4” height is perfect for tending to your plants without bending or kneeling and bunnies will certainly not be able to reach the growing produce. This planter is sturdy and should be useful for many seasons. I am giving this product five stars because I think it is a good value. I would like to discuss the assembly process, however because there is room for improvement there. I initially found it unclear how to snap the strips properly into the legs. I actually don’t understand why this is not done already at the factory as it would eliminate a step, save packing space and make this assembly quicker. I actually had to search the internet for a video to assist in assembly (which was excellent, made by the manufacturer) because I wanted to be sure these strips were placed properly. I now see there is a note on the directions for the video link but it does not function properly. That notice should be bold and BIG in print as it is easy to miss. The other is that a bottom board piece was missing from my box. It took a little while to receive a replacement piece but the customer service folks for this company are friendly and helpful so it was a pleasure dealing with this issue. A small piece of extra advice is to make sure the finished side of the short boards is facing outwards before sliding them into place. I think that is worth mentioning in the directions as well. Overall, this is a great product that just needs a little tweaking in the assembly process. Definitely recommended.

This outdoor raised garden bed is perfect for those who are finding it more difficult to do gardening that requires bending or kneeling. The bed is four feet-by-four feet and made of very good materials. The instructions say no tools are needed but I had to use a rubber mallet on the legs to prepare them for the wood panels. The instructions could be a little clearer, especially on the final steps. This is a sturdy, well-constructed garden planter that will last for years and provide an easier gardening experience.

We got this garden planter to have a little vegetable garden up on our deck where we actually get a decent amount of sun (and also hopefully harder to get to by critters). It is a nice size and seems like it should last a while. The box itself is cedar, which is a rot and insect resistant wood, so it should last a while. The legs are made of a vinyl material and have little inserts to hold everything up. They were easy to put in and the instructions were easy to follow. Once you assemble the box, you line it with garden fabric, fill with soil, and then you're ready to plant! We put a tomato and a zucchini plant in the box so they have space to grow. So far, they are doing really well!

This is my positive review of the Outdoor Essentials 4 ft. x 4 ft. Rustic Weathered Brown Elevated Planter. Let's get a couple of things out of the way. The planter is advertised as no tools needed to assemble. That is true, but I would have a rubber mallet available and a second pair of hands. The planter is 4' X 4' which equates to a very generous 16 square feet of planting area. Plenty of room for growing herbs, plants, flowers, and vegetables. The planter is easy to assemble but take your time and read the included instruction sheet first. If you have an issue, the Outdoor Essentials website has all the info you would ever need! They also have a YouTube channel with assembly videos. I'll post the link down below. The quality of the raised planter is well thought out. The vinyl legs will never rot or rust. The rough-sawn stained slats look weathered and give a warm, soft look to the planter. The planter is very sturdy once the dovetailed sideboards are set in place. There are 4 post caps to give the raised planter that finished look. The bottom slats are cut so there is no binding when setting them in place and water can drain out. You will need a little over 8.5 cu feet of soil to fill the planter. NOTE: If you are raising edible plants you will need to line the planter with a plastic liner and punch a few holes in it to allow for draining. If you are just planting decorative items, you only need some landscape fabric. The Outdoor Essentials Raised Planter is good looking and very functional. I highly recommend this 4'x4' planter or any of the other Outdoor Essentials raised planters. The four corner stanchions with dove tail slots are an excellent idea. All of the side boards have dove tail cuts on them, making for a really strong box. The fit is somewhat tight, so you may have to bump the boards into the slots with a bump of the hand or a hammer. I used a hammer on the sleeve inserts for the stanchions so that they lined up with the ends. The full length inserts were all the same size. However, the 8 inside corner sleeves on mine were about 3/16 of an inch shorter for half (4) of the eight. I inserted the longer ones first, then matched the top of the shorter sleeves with them, so there is a tiny gap at the bottom of 4 of the inserts. No one will see this, and it does not affect the build quality, so...The only other anomaly was the presence of sap on some of the boards. Not a big deal, but keep a paper towel handy. The final whine would be that there are no caps for the bottom of the stanchions. I am putting mine on a wood deck, so it's a bit of an issue. I'll figure out something, but that would have been a nice add-on to an otherwise VERY nice planter. The wood is definitely rustic, but the bottom pieces in mine seemed to have a finished side. I think I will lay down landscape fabric inside and drill some drainage holes in the bottom pieces. However, the bottom boards have room for expansion and contraction, so water will get out at the corners- if not between the boards as well. For the size, it's incredibly light. Looking forward to filling it.

LOOKS AND ASSEMBLY: It’s an attractive planter, offering a distinct juxtaposition of the modern black posts and rustic rough-hewn boards. The instructions are good - read them carefully otherwise it’s easy to orient the legs incorrectly, at which point you’ll have to disassemble everything and start over. Assembly is easy in concept only! Just slide the pieces together. But that requires brute force to push the wood slats into the grooves on the legs and push the plastic trim strips into the channels on the legs. A rubber mallet helps. And definitely wear gloves to avoid splinters. DURABILITY: Two concerns. First is that the wood will rot. It’s listed as “durable rough-sawn lumber…stained”, but there’s no indication of wood species, nor does it appear to be pressure treated or natural cedar (either of which would help prevent rot.) Second is that the slats could pull out of the legs as the wood expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes. Read the other reviews. I haven’t filled mine with dirt yet, but I could see where the lateral pressure of heavy, wet potting soil could push the sides apart and cause it to collapse. One of the slats DID pull out while I was assembling it (pic), but the whole thing was more sturdy once all the slats were in place. APPLICATION: My wife was particularly keen on this planter for two potential uses. One was as a mini-kitchen garden with a variety of herbs. The other was as a decorative planter to sit between the garage doors and hold seasonal plantings. Since I am concerned about the planter holding soil, my wife has decided that she will place only potted flowers or herbs in the planter rather than filling it with soil and planting flowers or herbs directly in it. The directions were very helpful (see picture), and they recommend wearing gloves. That is a good idea so you avoid splinters. It states you can assemble it without tools, but a rubber mallet would be helpful to speed up assembly a bit. The wood slats fit very well. I highly recommend this raised bed planter because it looks great and the assembly process was very smooth.

The wood slats are stained a light brown, and the directions state that you should line the inside of the planter with plastic if you are using the planter for edible plants. Be sure to make some drain holes in the plastic. I highly recommend this raised bed planter because it looks great and the assembly process was very smooth.
