The product is Western Red Cedar, with correct staining/sealing, foundation installation and annual maintenance, then the cedar should not rot.
The garden bed is made of western red cedar which is known to be a durable substrate. We would always recommend staining or sealing your product for maximum longevity particularly in an ocean environment. The product comes with no floor so be sure to find a suitable foundation. That is both flat and well draining.

We do recommend a 4mm plastic liner which comes in a roll from Home Depot. Please see our website for the video.

If you are using this as a vegetable garden, I would not treat with a stain or sealer--at least on the inside part of the bed. Chemicals likely to leach into the soil.
We recommend lining the unit and yes, if that is done it would be a good idea to stain it before.

Bamboo is extremely invasive. You will not control the roots which will spread out from underneath. In any kind of homeowner association area, bamboo would probably not be allowed, because it WILL invade the neighbor's property.
