We recommend lining the unit and yes, if that is done it would be a good idea to stain it before.

We were under prepared for this venture. I would recommend more emphasis on site preparedness. Once we got to the actual assembly of the structure, it did not take long. Filling with soil was a back breaking job, (would recommend hiring 4 young individuals to install the soil). The plastic hinges are not too impressive (we will see how long these last).

This kit is LARGE - 350 lbs shipping weight - shipped via truck from British Columbia, so it took a week to get to NC. Instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the panels are put together well. It says it will take about 5 hours to assemble, it took me about double that, but still not difficult. The hardware was short of a few 8 x 1" screws, but I had plenty of them, so no problem. The use of a power drill/screwdriver is highly recommended, and you might want to get a 4" long 1/8" drill bit so you don't have to angle too much some of the pilot holes. The only thing I did not like much were the plastic hinges, they look like they will fatigue-fail in short order, so I replaced them with steel hinges I had lying around. The beds are 33" deep, a lot of topsoil, so we used 15" of clean straw as the base, followed by a layer of untreated cardboard (from the kit boxes), a layer of mulch and then the topsoil. We will top it off as the base layers compost and compact, and in a couple of years we will have a nice compost layer that can be mixed. The finished garden looks beautiful!

We love our garden. It went together easy but took us about 8-10 hours spread over a couple of days. Only A couple of problems 1. we replaced the plastic hinges with metal ones. 2. Plastic deer screen not secure enough. Replacing it with metal screen. Probably putting chicken wire over plastic screen.

The quality and packaging are great. The manufacturer is also very professional. They called to arrange delivery and gave several helpful tips on how to assemble and fill. The instructions re very thorough, the hardware is also packaged and labeled well. There are also helpful videos they will direct you to. All-in-all we are very happy so far. Its definitely a weekend project when you factor the ground prep, assembly, fill, etc. We enjoyed putting it together though.
