Rolls Insulation

Rolls

Continuous rolls are easy to transport and can be cut to length; great for large areas

Batts Insulation

Batts

Come in pre-cut lengths for faster installation and each package contains more square feet than rolls; ideal for framed cavities

Questions & Answers

Since the product R-Value is measured by height where can I find Insulation Depth Markers?

I cannot find these on the Home Depot website. They seem critical for applying the product correctly.
Asked by: Todd
I went and bought paint stir sticks, cut them to the length I wanted and stapled a few around different areas. Then just sprayed the insulation until I covered the ends.

is this product flammable if put on or next to out dated wiring in old buildings
Asked by: doda
The fiberglass insulation is not flammable. Note the insulation itself cannot burn. But as you mentioned old wiring in old buildings, this insulation, or any insulation, will reduce heat flow in or out of a building. If the wires are getting warm under use due to small sizes used many years ago, or increased power requirements of whatever is plugged in, the insulation will keep that heat energy around the wires. Without insulation the wires can be cooled by the surrounding air. It is possible that with insulation the wires can get quite hot, perhaps to the point of creating a fire hazard. You may want to check the sizes of the wires and the size of fuses or circuit breakers they are connected to against the current building code requirements for your area. If they are already big enough, then it should be no problem.

The insulation and the use of the machine far exceeded my expectations for ease of coverage, time to cover, ease of use. Crawling around an attic can be VERY difficult, this system minimizes the need to crawl into every corner. We covered 1,800 sq ft ranch (hip roof) in 5 hrs-18” deep and covered a 1,800 sq fr ranch (gable roof with trusses) in 2.5 hrs 8” deep. It is labor intensive to crawl around an attic so this isn’t for everyone per se’ but if you have someone able bodied who can keep their balance, and one other person to cut open and feed bags into the machine on the ground...well worth your time. Both houses we did the drafts were susbtantially eliminated. For the house we covered 18”, it has 50 yr old windows/wall insulation and STILL their furnace went from operaring 50 min/hour to 20 min/hour. Ownes corning knocked this one out of the park!!!

That machine comes with 2x50 ft hose and easy instructions. I will never use Cellulose again after the ease of packing the machine and ease of spraying the insulation. Cellulose compacts too much and can block the machine and hose. Not this product. Flows great and as easy as pointing a water hose. We found it best to shoot to the furthest point first, and work your way back. If you spray too close to yourself, you will just blow all the insulation away. You want to be a good 10-12 ft away from landing area. We did a 1000 sq ft attic in less than 3 hours. One person on the ground packing the machine and one at the spray site. We added 12-14 more inches to the 8 inches of existing cellulose to bring our home well over code of R-49 plus. Highly recommend this for weekend warriors. Definitely wear breathing mask and eye goggles, not just glasses. The dust is low, but still intrusive. I ll let you know how the winter goes with this next spring.

It is not worth the cost or hassle to get a machine for 1 bag. Used a M-D Bldg Products Deluxe Mixer Paddle in a corded drill with T-Handle to expand the material. (https://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-Deluxe-Mixer-Paddle-49058/205226510) Did this with about 1/8 of the bag at a time in a large plastic garbage can. Believe I got at least 95% of the expansion I would have with a machine blower. Paint and drywall mud paddles will not work (I tried them). Took about 15 minutes to expand and distribute the bag of insulation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and Simple After having already done several home projects that included ventures into the hot cramped attic, i was not looking forward to another trip up there. But the AttiCat system made blowing insulation a breeze!!! We have an approximate 1250 sf attic and had virtually no insulation to begin with. We originally bought 20 bags of insulation but ended up only using 15 due to the great expansion of the product. It was nice being able to return the extra bags and receive the cash back. Overall the project took about 3 hours. 2 people are necessary but 3 is better. We had a runner that could communicate between the attic and the loading station, but he wasnt needed too often. Before the project, our house would easily get up to 90 degrees inside on a warm day. But recently the weather has cooled so I havent been able to get the full effect of the product on a hot day to make a comparison, but it definitely cant be any worse than what it was! I highly recommend this system to anyone! Its extremely easy to use for all D.I.Y'ers

HD delivery guys stacked the bags neatly in a pile in my garage. Rented the machine a week later and hauled it home in the back of our 2007 Highlander. Pre-cut 10 bags at a time and staged them next to the machine, which was manned by fiancee with 2-way radio. I duct taped a broomstick to end of hose as others suggested, donned my Tyvek coveralls and respirator, and blew my puffy pink load all over the attic. With the broomstick, I never had to get within 15 feet of the corners, and spraying the stuff against the rafters and watching it fall like snow was quite Zen. I ran out of space to put the insulation after 25 bags, which amounted to about R-49 all around. After 3 hours of spraying insulation, and an hour of trying to stuff the 100 foot hose back into the trash can it came in, I returned the machine and 5 bags to HD for a refund. Overall cost was about $800, compared with $3500 for a contractor to do the same work, so it was well worth the time and effort.

The work to blow the insulation in in our attic with a 4 &12 pitch to the roof was a bit of a challenge getting about but the ability to blow the insulation 10-15 feet out made getting the product under the low sections of the rafters a breeze. I blew in 30 bales and have between R44 and R49 in our attic for less than $1K. The machine does a pretty good job of delivery. Some people stated it was very clean. Well, you have to be pretty careful to not have some mess. The nice thing about this product is that it does not itch like insulation I have dealt with 25 years ago. The job of stuffing the product in the machine is a bit of work as the removal of the outer bag does require some exercise. My son and I worked on our attic from 8 a.m. till about 7:30 p.m. on a Sunday to get the job done. With an attic that is easier to get about in it would be faster. At any rate it is NOT hard to do and will pay for itself in the first year. I am good with that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended... My attic was less than R-29 value, I knew I had to do something, So my wife and I decided to invest the money it would take to save money in the long run, We purchased 12 bales of Attic Cat insulation for our 864 square foot attic we only needed 10 but a little extra wouldn't hurt, the cost was only $377.00 and that came with the blower to use to install the insulation there is a $250.00 deposit on the blower but you will get that back when you return the machine after use, We watched the video on the home depot web site which shows you how to use the blower and feed the insulation into it, It was so very easy to do, Long story short we now have a R-60 Value in our attic, The Attic Cat insulation is top quality, low dust, and it is not suppose to settle over time, but we all know a little settling will happen a Great product at a fair price, Thank you owens corning and home depot for making the whole experience delightful, Highly Recommended for everyone who wants to save money in the long run.

This is the second time I purchased this product for a total bag count of 88 bags of the pink insulation. The problem this time was with machine number 2.I had insulation coming out of of the intake air grille by the discharge hose. I am assuming the discharge piping off of the blower is cracked, partial disconnected. This piping is inside the machine before product leaves and is blown into the discharge hose. I will be buying 44bags and will diffently ask for Machine #1. Hopefully HomeDpot can address this problem and fix the machine. Fixing the machine will allow customer to install product faster and with way way way lessclean up. It was pretty messy. Many Thanks Mark M.
