how many rolls do I need for my garage door?

Asked by Rjrt8 March 26, 2021

Answers

Hello Rjrt8, Owens Corning does not have recommendations on installing our EcoTouch Products on garage doors. Please note that the kraft facing is combustible and must be covered by a 15 minute thermal barrier such as 1/2" drywall. Depending on your garage door size and type a product such as our garage door kit may be a product that will work. Please see link below for more information. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Owens-Corning-Garage-Door-Fiberglass-Insulation-Kit-22-in-x-54-in-8-Panels-GD01/202257272?MERCH=REC-_-searchViewed-_-NA-_-202257272-_-N Thank you for your inquiry!

What’s the difference between faced and not faced What are the benefits of either

Hello Patty, The facing on insulation acts as a vapor retarder which helps prevent moisture entering the assembly. The placement and need for a vapor retarder is based on your local building codes. Thank you for your inquiry!

I am framing my basement with 2x4s but I am placing them flat and screwing them into the wall

Fiberglass insulation loses it's insulating capabilities when you compress it (it's all of those little air pockets that prevent heat/cold transfer). Although you can compress it to 1.5", it will no longer have an R value of 13.

Would be a tight fit with zero air flow above it. Really should have some air flow! Also building code is R-38 in most areas with air flow above it. Unless this this a playhouse or shed probably not a good idea

Do I need an air Barrier after i insluted the faced fiberglass? (new england). Or i can just do my drywall direct the framing after the fiberglass?

Hello AC, an air barrier/weather resistant barrier would be located on the exterior side. The facing on the insulation is a vapor retarder of which the drywall would be installed against. Thank you for your inquiry!

Does the insulation face the outside wall or toward the wood walls?

Hello TS, The typical rule of thumb is the facing goes towards the winter warm side. However, this is determined my local building codes. We suggest to check with them to confirm. Thank you for your inquiry!

I had this insulation delivered along with sheet rock for a garage improvement project. It's a good product and easy to install. The paper flaps on the backing make it convenient to staple to the studs during installation. For figuring purposes, I found that one roll would do about four standard 16 inch spacings between studs with a little left over for patching small areas.Simple enough that my middle school child was able to install with me.

Used in 2x4 garage wall cavities. Was easy to cut to length as we have 10' heights. Working vertically dust and fibers were negligible. However we decided to use the product as a second barrier, installing perpendicular to and over ceiling joists in the garage before filling the ceiling cavity. It was dusty and requires the use of respirators. good quality product. clean installation
