Product Details

Owens Corning Raft-R-Mate attic vent is an extruded polystyrene foam vent designed to assure unrestricted airflow from the soffit to the ridge vent. Additionally, Raft-R-Mate attic vent has an optional bend down air stop or insulation block at the top plate of the wall in one easy-to-install product. The optional air stop or insulation block prevents loose fill insulation from filling the eave space during installation of cathedral ceiling or attic floors, by closing off the opening below the Raft-R-Mate attic vent to the soffit. The Raft-R-Mate attic vents install quick and easily and are sized to fit 24 in., 16 in. and 12 in. on center framing. Utilize in both new and retrofit construction.

A:  Hello Bullhome, The Raft-R-Mate has an accordion hinge to allow the product to bend so it can be stapled to the top plate. Please see link below to the installation guide. https://dcpd6wotaa0mb.cloudfront.net/mdms/dms/Residential%20Insulation/20314/20314-raft-R-mate-Attic-Rafter-Vent-Brochure.pdf?v=1584977984000 Thank you for your inquiry!

Performance. There is no comparison to the rigidity, thickness and design. As I slid these into position, the directed air flow was amazing having a nozzle effect, increasing velocity of air from soffit vent and directing it up toward the ridge vent.. It works. The price made me hesitate and Home Depot only sells online by the 70 pc. case. Having installed these now, I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. Superior. Installation. . The competitor's products are thin, flimsy, and brittle copys. These stayed in place in my 24" on-center rafters. I used an air stapler with Arrow T50 3/8 x 3/8 crown staples .I used the divergent grind points that give a little twist and hold great. Go to Arrow's website for more on metals and point types available. Stapling into deck sheathing with a Porter-Cable air stapler only drove the staples the depth needed. It didn't punch thru foam baffles, just good firm hold. Sliding insulation into position at edge of top plate, the rafter vents are rigid keeping airspace between roof deck sheathing and insulation and didn't rip/tear or crush and I had R-30 thick batts shoving into that cramped space. This product maintains airflow from soffit vents as designed. Features.. Owens-Corning rafter vents have an acordian portion that can be curved down to the top plate as a wind block. This keeps loose fill insulation from being blown back away from edges near soffit vents and when blowing new insulation into edges, it prevents the loose fill insulation from getting blown into soffit vent area plugging up the vents. To recap, the rafter vents work great and do exactly what they are designed to do, protect and provide the airspace needed for inlet air from soffits. I hope this helps you make an informed purchase.

The rafter bays I was insulating were from 1890, so none of them were the same width and none of them were standard 16" centers. I had to improvise but was able to do so fairly well with these. 1/2" staples for the install and I was done. Easy to trim as well with a good sharp razor.

My 15 year old daughter installed them..
A low pitch roof made it difficult, but she managed it and installed 18 of them in under 2 hours. Some of them spilt, as to be expected, when stapling and curling them up, but she took a roll of tuck tape up the ladder and ran it along the stapled edge and on any cracks.

These work great and easily for rafter vents. But they are a little flimsy and do not spilt easily by folding them as per the instructions. You have to cut them with a razor knife or they will tear. Thus, 4 stars.

They work but are too flimsy and split very easily. I would prefer a more durable product.
