I use apple juice, or make sugar water. Both work well.

It Will Absolutely Work!
This trap works great! I baited it with a mix of ½ cup of apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon of sugar, and 3 small-sized pieces of raw pork. After 5 days of using, there were around 30 wasps in the trap.

I bought this trap and caught 15+ the first couple days. Rebated and caught another 15-20. The clear plastic is much better than the solid yellow traps that look like a hive - had virtually zero luck with them (bought two). I inserted a piece of dowelling in the top holes, making a perch and attached a piece of meat. I then put cola in the bottom and a couple drops of dish soap. This is the best design I have found so far. Highly recommended -

I bought 2 because there are so many wasps and hornets around my gardens. They are eating the baby Gulf Fritillary caterpillars on my Purple Passionflowers. Set the first trap with just apple juice and sugar, within one week 5 hornets caught. So I set the second trap. Next day it had 4 hornets and there are more in the first trap, too busy in there to count now. Catching a lot of little bugs also. Greatest invention since fly paper.

I have used other wasp traps that allowed the wasps to escape. The PIC wasp and hornet traps work well. The insects do not get out.

Great!
These work great, but I thik it depends on what you put in it, where you put it, and what time of year. Hasn't attracked wasps; I didn't catch any with Coke and cat food in there earlier this summer. I recently (late August) put in apple juice with 1 tsp sugar and hung it from a shepherd's hook. Within 1 day, I got about 20 yellow jackes/hornets. I have another one on the other side of the house on a picnic table and only caught 3 so far yesterday.
