Does this help eliminate the smell from the cooler?

The best "double duty" product to eliminate odor AND help with hard water is to add your favorite liquid fabric softener to the water. In order to keep it smelling "fresh" it needs to be added frequently, depending on how frequently you use your cooler. (Unless in your situation one dose "does the trick").

I have very hard water and lots of lime build-up. I use 2 packs for my MasterCool, but wonder when I should replace them? How long are they supposed to "last"? I saw one user replaced monthly, but there are no instructions/recommendations regarding replacement on the packaging.

This stuff contains a known carcinogen. And SDS says to avoid the dust, etc. So they want us to put this in a cooler that basically sprays it across us if we stand in front of the fan? As the water evaporates, this stuff will be left behind on the pads and blown right on us. I don't get how this is safe.
