Q:Can this plants be planted in the yard in middle November in zone 8. Do they survive winter?

    Answer This Question

A:  I'm in zone 6 and have done late November plantings of different hybrids of althea but their cold tolerance is same/similar. The only one that didn't come back was in a planter - not the ground. I expect they will fare even better & bloom earlier in zone 8. I have about 10 althea in my landscaping - beautiful summer blooms!

Q:Are there any growers of Proven Winners White Pillar Rose of Sharon Hibiscus on the West Coast or Pacific Northwest? After placing an order in Portland for 8 plants on Thursday, May 27th I find that they are being shipped from a grower in South Carolina. An estimated delivery of Friday, June 4 clear across the country in 70-90 degree weather and waiting in trucks and warehouses over Memorial Day holiday. Had I known these plants wouldn't be coming from the Pacific Northwest or anywhere west of the Mississippi. Any nurseries producing Proven Winners Pillars out this way in case these don't survive the trip?

      Answer This Question

A:  The plants were in very good condition in spite of the heat. They came from So. Carolina to Texas.

I bought it as a gift for my daughter in law. She absolutely loves it. It wasn't blooming when I received it but after about a week it was in full bloom after repotting.
