Is this a fast growing shrub?

Asked by Nana April 8, 2018

Answers

Hi Kitty, Yes, Golden Ticket Privet is fast growing. It should grow about 2 or more feet per year until it reaches maturity. It is adaptable to most soils and the foliage color will be best in full sun. If you have any other questions, feel free to call our hotline (734) 654-7485. Best regards, Amanda

How far apart should these be planted to create a large informal hedge?

Asked by WendyL August 23, 2018

These plants can get a bit large at maturity (about 3' wide and tall) so you can plant them about 3' apart without a problem. Just be sure to prune them once a year to keep them from getting unruly.

Hi Mandy, Golden Ticket Privet has a mature size of 4-6 feet tall and wide and does not need heavy pruning, but will tolerate it if tight, formal shapes are desired. You can control their shape but not necessarily their size. You may want to place the privets behind the hollies since they will mature larger. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to us at helpdesk@provenwinnersdirect.com or (734) 654-7485. Best regards, Amanda

To create a hedge/wall out of these, how far apart should they be planted for optimal coverage?

Asked by Baxter927 April 10, 2017

I've read extensively on the internet because I had the same question. General consensus was 24 to 48 inches. These are fast growing plants and their roots will need some space, but above ground they will quickly knit together, especially with a good pruning regimen.

How tall do they get?

Hi cds, The Golden Ticket Privet reaches a mature height and width of 4-6 feet. If you have any questions, please call our hotline (734) 654- 7485. Best regards, Fallon

If my shrub is getting too tall, is there a good way to make the shrug shorter without making it look terrible?

Asked by Awill June 24, 2018

You must prune them to your taste. This is a call that you must make. Have someone prune them for you but watch them so you will learn how to do it. It's very simple, as simple as getting a hair cut.

Will this plant grow in wet clay soil?

Asked by Tom August 20, 2017
2
Answers

I have clay soil, and I always till (with an electric tiller) to loosen the soil to help the roots until they are strong enough to find their way through soil. I then amend with a little enriched shrub soil and a light dusting of peat moss. We have to work harder but once they establish their roots will adapt.

Can these plants handle part shade mostly Sun.?

Asked by Ncz September 2, 2019

Answers

Yes. We have it planted just that way and it is doing well. It will need more water if it is getting allot of sun.

Can i grow this in Containers or Pot? If so, what should be the size of the container?

Asked by IT March 26, 2017

Answers

Mine is in a large (18" diameter) container and doing well.

(What's this)
The plant arrived at my front door well packed and in great shape, very healthy looking. I wasn't able to plant it right away because our winter here does not seem to want to let go. My wife recommended I fully unpack it and keep it in a lighted area in the house until the weather warms up enough to be safe. It looks like is would easily survive a real cold snap but we didn't want to risk hurting such and beautiful plant. When we finally got a warm day to plant it, we untied it from the pot and separated the container. It was still healthy but the roots were packed in there so it was definitely wanting to get in the ground. Since we planted it, things seem to be going great with it. It hasn't even blinked since getting planted. In fact it's looking better every day.

(What's this)
I have always liked Privet as a hedge, but never did plant one because of its known invasive habit. This Golden Ticket variety has been bred to be non-invasive and is claimed to be the only sterile privet on the market. The shrub arrived in magnificent condition, considering it's still winter here. My wife immediately noticed that it came from Proven Winners and mentioned her experience is: "their stuff is always good". Recent nights have dropped below freezing, and because this specimen is fully leafed out, I will wait until overnight temps are stable above freezing before planting it out.

(What's this)
Very good size for a one gallon shrub! Came nicely delivered in a well protected cardboard box. Planted it straight away, and - so far - the shrub looks pretty happy. I was expecting a sad "dormant" plant - it's February after all - but the shrub is super green, looks very alive and ready to grow. Apparently, privets produce some cute fruits that birds enjoy to eat. Can't wait for those: I hope that the birdies will be so distracted by those fruits, that they will abandon eating my strawberries.

(What's this)
I was a bit leery ordering a living plant on-line, but this bush arrived within one week in excellent shape...see the picture of the shipping box and plant attached. The privet is beautifully green and just chock full of blooms. I planted it the same day it arrived, following the directions: I used soil amendment to lighten up our Georgia red clay and was sure to loosen the root ball before planting. Even though it's the end of February, our temperatures are now in the 60's-70's so the shrub should adapt well...I will be watching the weather in case of a last freeze which would require protecting it with a tarp until the temps rise above 32deg.

So impressed with the packaging and condition of these plants so late in the season. They were packaged for stability in boxes that allowed them to breathe and allowed the UPS drivers to see that there were living plants in the box so they weren't crushed. I had to cut the roots because although they were very moist and clearly active they had encircled the base and I wanted them to have the best chance once I put them in the ground. They are also a little smaller than expected because they were probably pruned this late in the season. I am very happy with this purchase

In the item description was it NOT mentioned that the flowers are fragrant. Which may fine for some but not for those who suffer from allergies. So it may be that this plant will be okay for some, it is yellow as we want, the size of mature shrub we want so planned our front garden around it. Then they arrived with label prominently displaying FRAGRANT. So the planning starts over, merchandising at Home Depot could have prevented this.
