Are there requirements how far I can place the unit from a side wall?

Sorry I have no clue. Check with your contractor or your building ordinances. We have ours in the middle of the bathroom but close to the shower. We absolutely love this product!

Can I install 2 heaters on the same switch? Any special requirements for the switch? Can I use a countdown timer?

Asked by Momofthree September 19, 2020

No; they shou be on separate switches. You can use a timer BUT, it must be able to handle a slightly higher wattage than the unit requires. Example: if the unit is rated at 1600 watts then use an 1800 watt rated time. You won’t find that at HD. I bought one on line.

Can you paint the grill? It’s off white and looks terrible on our bright white ceiling.

Yes - make sure you use a spray paint that is safe for plastic - the challenge is that color options for spray paint are limited.

Are you accidentally turning on the heat? That fan blows into the room.

I installed the Leviton 5627-W on a dedicated 20 amp circuit. It did the job.

i do not believe there is a ballast in the unit. it is a fan and heater, there is no lightf. ballasts are needed for lights.

Can I use adjustable switch for this fan

The manual doesn't say anything about that. The wiring diagram just shows a switch on each circuit. I have a normal switch attached to the exhaust fan, and a rotary timer switch for the heater fan.

Is it possible to switch on separately the fan and heating functions?

Asked by migs January 31, 2020

Yes they are wired separately. It would probably behoove you to split the circuit too. I run the fan side off a humidity sensing switch so it turns on automatically (or manually) and shuts off after so many minutes. The heater side is routed through a digital timer switch rated for that load.

My bathroom is about 150sf and 9' ceiling, it has enough power to keep your bathroom warm in winter.

How do I know which side the heat blows out of? I want to install so heat is blowing toward the shower.

The exhaust is the side where the 4 inch piping is on the outside of the box. In this picture the exhaust is on the right and the heat is on the left. Be certain that you have the proper elbows in the piping of the exhausted air and that you do not make the run to the outside vent too long. The instructions are very specific. You really don't need the heat facing toward your shower. The entire bathroom warms enough that it would not be necessary. I would think that the air that is blowing out of the heater would be too much of a breeze while you are wet even with the strength of this heater. You may wish to reconsider your choice. Warm breezes on wet skin will still feel cold.

We live in the cold Northeast and renovated our master bath - this is a "must" have! We have a very large bath (15' x 18') and this warms up the space in about 2 to 3 minutes. Much more efficient than turning the whole house heater on - and much, much quicker. It's quiet and the exhaust fan works well too. Excellent product and essential addition to a quality bath!

I would previously use a space heater in the bathroom in the winter. I wanted this to clean up the bathroom but still provide warmth in the winter. My bathroom is 12x6x8 ft ceiling. It works great and keeps the mirror from fogging. Installation was as expected, new not replacing a vent and somewhat challenging due to my low clearance attack.

Unit works fine although I think the heater is a little weak. Biggest issue is that the cover does not fit flat against the ceiling. The way the cover is made it have an inherent warp that leaves a large gap in the middle ( I purchased the unit without the light). I called Panasonic and they sent me a new cover after I sent them photos of the how poorly the cover fits. Problem is that all the covers fit the same. They have two spring clips on each end and the center has the gap. You think for the amount you pay for this unit that they would have someone that know how to product a flat part.... SO I will have to hack together something on the existing cover to make it work right,

Fan installed easily and works like a charm. A nice feature is that it waits for the heating coil heats up before the fan blows the warm air. Otherwise, on a cold day, it would blow cold air until the coil heats up. Highly recommend. Panasonic's tech line was very helpful for my technical questions.

As a contractor, I have used a variety of heat/vent/light combos over the years. They are all ugly, noisy and throw off terrible lighting. 3 years ago I found the Panasonic and have installed several. First, it eliminates the light completely, which drops the ugliness factor. We illuminate bathrooms with 6" cans and light fixtures. Second, IT IS WHISPER QUIET! I have clients who have left it on unknowingly. The heating element is okay, too, but it is the quiet sound of the exhaust that is special. (In large bathrooms, use in conjunction with heated floor) Important notice, it is expensive at $320.00. Price has risen 7% since last Fall. Note: We always wire a separate circuit.
