    Great looking fire place
Great kit , i am a do it yourself guy. I still decided to hire a stone work crew . At 10k there is alot of lifting. Actually used a bobcat to haul pallets from front yard up the hill to my location . Only took them 2 days to complete so dont get overcharged for installation.

          Fun, easy and gorgeous
My husband made this together and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. A could recommendations, get a couple extra tubes of adhesive & you will need shims. Takes a couple of days from start to finish.

            Poolside Fireplace
Great bang for the buck. Relatively simple to build although an angle grinder and some metal shim stock were required. Added a fireplace screen and chimney cap for added safety. At $3K it’s a bargain compared to similar products out there. It took about 24 man hours building it myself. I give it a big thumbs up.

Overall good but could be better
I have waited about 6 weeks since we built the fireplace to post a review so that I had some time to give a solid assessment. Since we live in Buffalo where the winters can be a bit extreme, I put in the "option #2" foundation with the (4) Sonotube supports. I dug and poured this myself and this was by far the toughest part of the project. The build of the fireplace itself was a fun project as we pulled our 3 kids in and everyone helped with the build. We spent about 14 hrs. over 3 days to complete the fireplace. Overall, we love the fireplace but it does have some pro's and con's: - Pro's 1) Overall, it's a good value. I looked at other options and all were $5k or more. 2) The kit was well put together -- not a single broken block out of the 5 skids. The block count was just right with a few extra of each size. 3) I expected the firebox and chimney to be more like thin sheet metal but they are made of heavy guage plate which was pretty impressive. 4) It looks great -- we've received more compliments about the fireplace than any other home improvement we have made. Con's: 1) The firebox could be deeper -- it is fairly shallow which makes it more prone to embers blowing out of the firebox with the wind. The fireplace is large--I am surprised they couldn't squeeze a few more inches of depth. 2) The instructions were a bit of a joke. Good layer by layer graphics but there are a ton of things they could have told me that would have made things easier and resulted in a better end product. Things like how to support the overhanging blocks at certain points, how much glue to apply, etc. It is obvious that Home Depot wanted to have an out by stating "professional installation required". They wanted to give DIY'ers enough info to squeeze by without giving full details where they would be fully liable for issues. Words of wisdom -- pay attention to level and plumb starting with the first layer. I wish now that I had slowed down a bit and checked these more. Also--have some jigs ready to support the overhanging areas. I had to build those on the fly and it was rushed. I have attached a photo of our end product. I added the chimney cap and the monogram on the front. Overall, we had fun with this project --go for it!
