Feeder does not keep squirrels from eating the bird seed....
Feeder does not keep squirrels from eating the bird seed. They use their paws or head to reach into feeder to get the seed.

When hanging a feeder, it is also important to ensure that the feeder is 10-20 feet from launch points such branches, decks, fences, and rooftops. It should also be at least 6 feet from the ground. Squirrels haven't gotten in yet, but birds stay away as well. The only one who gets in and eats my seed is Mr. Chipmunk. Not very happy with this purchase, and it was not cheap!

Only the smallest finches seem able to get into the inner part to feed. Something about the shape of the access openings seems to confuse them and sitting sideways when trying to access seems problematic to them. Also large blackbirds can get their heads partially into the openings allowing their long beaks to access the food.

Squirrels can hang on the outside wire and reach in with their paws and get seeds. Small birds do not
get inside the wire cage. Only large birds with long bills can reach the seed.

Had problem with squirrels and deer eating the feed and this feeder seems to have solved that problem, but the birds don't want to use it. Put feed on the tray part to entice them and they ate that while staying outside of the cage but they don't want to go inside of the cage. It's attractive and well made and does deter other animals so it's disappointing. May return.
