A:Â The screen mouse is a roller installation tool. Petscreen would be the choice for material to keep the cate separate.

A:Â Yes, it will install all standard sizes of spline.

A:Â Yes and no. Spline up to 0.25 will fit thru the tool. However, it's far too flimsy to use with larger spline. Works OK for screen windows up to maybe 0.160 spline, useless for pool enclosures or similar screens using 0.200 or thicker spline.

A:Â I've used it on 0.125 spline. It should work on any round spline.

A:Â It should

A:Â This tool did not work with the replacement screen kit for my patio door. It could be the spline I had was too large. I don't know the spline dimensions.

A:Â The "Product Overview" clearly states in the very first bullet point and I quote "Works with most screening projects using round splines up to 1/4 in. Dia"

A:Â Yes. The phifer screen mouse handles spline up to .25 in (.63cm) in diameter.

A:Â The max spline diameter is 1/4" so it should work fine with .175" spline. It worked GREAT with the .160" spline i used.

A:Â It has the same type of wheels as with any other tool, one concave, one convex.
by|May 5, 2023
A:Â no. the wheels are way to narrow
by|Mar 6, 2019
A:Â It has the same wheels as any other spline tool
by|May 5, 2023
A:Â The instructions on the package says that it works with round spline up to .25 in. but not flat. You could probably use this tool, but not ideal for flat.
by|Jan 1, 2020
A:Â YES, I splined my whole patio with the flat spline and this tool worked perfectly!!

A:Â Yes, I used it for flat spline and had no trouble. It was my first time installing a screen.

A:Â no.
by|Mar 6, 2019
A:Â It is not intended for flat spline; the front wheel is concave to help center a round spline in the groove. The back wheel then is used to further seat the spine in the groove. While it may work, there are probably better options available for you.
by|May 4, 2023
A:Â As the product overview states this is designed for round spline. Give it a try and respond back so we know if it worked for you.

Answer This Question
A:Â The plastic wheels & body struggled with metal screen for me; found a traditional screen tool (hardwood handle, steel roller wheels) was far better.

A:Â again, if the spline is small enough. It doesn't matter what kind of screen you use (fiberglass or metal) this rolls out the spline used to "hold" the spline in.
by|Mar 6, 2019
A:Â I'm not sure what you mean about "metal" screen but it worked great with the mesh screen I purchased from Home Depot
by|Jul 21, 2021
A:Â If you use the solid wheel first to insert the screen into the track.
by|May 5, 2023
A:Â Yes, worked very well with metal screen, much better than the wooden handle tool, nice to have that constant fee from the front of the roller.

Makes short work of rescreening job
This tool when I saw it online looked lake a real good idea I wish I would come up with it before somebody else did. It really worked like they said it did as long as you did not try to do it to fast then the spline sometimes slips out from the rollers, I would purchase it again for the price it was a good value.

Flimsy plastic wheels
Wheels are too thin and flimsy to set the spline. The rear wheel slips off and bends. If both wheels were thicker and had a center recess for the spine to sit in then this would be a great DIY tool.
