Product Overview

The more you dim, the warmer the light with the Philips Downlight with warm glow dimmable light effect. This elegant Philips LED Downlight offers a new experience for dimmable LED downlights by creating a soft, diffused light and smooth dimming from 2,700K to 2,200K. As the light is dimmed, the color temperature of the downlight is reduced and creates a warm, relaxing ambiance. Until now, this warm, dimming effect was only available in dimmable halogen and incandescent light bulbs. Now, here's the perfect alternative for these household applications where ambience is as important as lowering energy bills and reducing the hassle of frequently replacing light bulbs. This fully dimmable downlight is ENERGY STAR Certified. This Philips Downlight easily converts standard 5 in. and 6 in. recessed cans into high-quality energy-efficient LED flood light, offering soft white light for a pleasing and relaxed ambiance. It's dimming your way. Featuring a medium based socket adapter for easy installation, the Philips LED downlight with Warm Glow has a white trim and provides a soft white light, making it ideal for general room lighting. Suitable for both wet and dry locations, it can be used in kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, bathroom and showers or outdoors under a porch or eave.

The tabs do swing out. I gave my unit a slight twist as I pushed it and that seemed to help. Just be sure to twist it the direction that doesn’t make the tabs fold in.

Should I remove the baffle / heat shield that is in the can before installing these LED retrofit bulbs?

Hi JB - If you are referring to an insulating foam ring you can either remove it or leave as is.

Will these work with Lightolier 5" 1002-p1 cans?

They should, if a standard incandescent spot light these are a great replacement for them. Depends on where they are installed, if these are installed in the attic close to insulation, looking at the Lightolier 5" 1002-p1 pictures, there is no can to keep the insulation away. At the same time, I think they will work fine on the first floor of a two story home where there is no insulation to keep away from the the hole. The challenge will be how to keep the light in the socket. All the ones I replaced had a can that held the springs to keep the light in place. Not sure what you have. What I did is remove the spring retainer and decorative ring as well as the old light bulb. Then screwed in the adapter, plugged the led into the adapter clipped the springs were the old decorative ring was and everything slid into place creating a nice tight seal and looks great, better then the old bulbs.

Not sure if you figure this out or not yet, I see it is now 1 year old. there should be a setting on the dimmer switch to set the lowest setting. Set this to just above where it starts to flicker. I have al kinds of bulbs and dimmers, so far all of them are working fine. Double check the settings, Lutron site might have the answers for you.

Not reliably. The high/low output on the MACL-153M can be trimmed to eliminate flickering (although that severely limits the range of brightness, which is why you buy these lights in the first place) but I've installed 24 of these Philips 802389 lights in my home, and in half the circuits, sometimes the lights make a bright flash when you turn them on, and sometimes they don't. The switch is highly programable, but I have yet to find a combination of settings that eliminates the flash 100% of the time.

This quality made Philips LED retrofit kit for recessed incandescent 5” and 6” downlighting is a good energy saving alternative for some recessed light fixtures. Using only 11 watts, it produces 660 lumens of 90 CRI, 2700k light. However, despite its claim as a 65 watt equivalent replacement for incandescent, it produces far less light than either a 65 watt standard Satco 65BR30 incandescent flood (920 lumens) or a 65 watt halogen flood (1100 lumens). So it you need the same quatity of light and you are presently using - either 65 watt incandescent floods or 65 watt halogen floods - then this retrofit kit is not for you. However, if you actually need less light than you presently have then this might be the perfect energy saving retrofit kit for your 5”and 6” can downlights. It comes with an Edison base adapter that screws into the standard medium based socket. The white painted metal LED trim then plugs into the adapter. Simply push the trim into any 5”or 6” recessed cans and the adjustable spring arms hold the trim securely in place. This LED light is dimmable provided the dimmer is rated for LED lamps. It also uses WARM GLOW technology meaning that the color temperature decreases as the bulb is dimmed from 2700k down to 2200k, much like a standard incandescent. The energy saving are dramatic, especially if you are replacing 65 watt floods, as these 11 watt LEDs will use barely 17% of the energy. One additional note of caution: if your existing recessed fixtures have baffles and the existing bulb is recessed up into the fixture above the ceiling plane you are likely to notice pronounced glare with this retrofit trim as its puts the light source flush with the ceiling. Please see the pictures I have posted with the review. Overall, this is a quality LED retrofit kit for many, but not all, applications. It is made in China.
