Can this nailer be used to install hardwood flooring?

Asked by: HDshopper
If you shoot at an angle into the sides of the wood flooring. I wouldn't shoot straight down for a number of reasons: the nails will show and if you try to re-finish the floors down the road, you'll be hitting the nails.

I have never used a nail gun before and was considering buying the $200 ryobi battery powered one. I almost bought the $30 Wen nail gun before this one but it required oil. I opted to buy this one instead as I already had an air compressor and it was in stock in the store. I also bought some 1 1/4in finishing nails as that is what my project required. I got home, read the instructions, and found that the gun actually came with 100 1 1/4in nails inside the hard case. Oh well, now I have extra. I loaded the gun, built up air, and went right to work on a test piece of wood first. This gun was very easy to use, not that loud and worked great! This is an oil free model so I was glad of that. I do plan on keeping the magazine oiled slightly with WD-40 or similar just because it is metal and needs to slide smoothly. I store it in the case so this should not be much of an issue. Overall, this is a must buy and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, reliable nail gun at a good price.

I had used different lengths of Porter-Cable brand brad nails, from 5/8" to 2", without any issues, using a 2-gallon air compressor setting pressure at 70 PSI and the nailer attached a 100-ft hose. It had fired a few blanks (brad nail didn't shoot out), but had experienced no jams. No splitting or shattering had occurred when nailing polystyrene quarter-round moldings to base board. The nailer would not fire (trigger lockup) when the tip was pushed to hard against the work piece.

Don't think it would drive that length brad thru a harder wood. Nice that it doesn't use oil so it doesn't contaminate the workpiece for later painting or staining. Don't know how long it will last but at 50 bucks I will be happy to get a few years occasional use.

Needed to hang some trim boards with 2" brads and did not want/need to spend a bunch. Removable belt hook was a nice unexpected feature, but I was not entirely comfortable hanging a loaded nail gun from my belt. Looking forward to hanging some wainscoting next.

Worked well but left several indentations instead of just small nail holes. Overall strong and looks like it should hold up for the several other projects in store.
