5 in. 14 HP Kohler Gas Powered Chipper Shredder Kit with Extended Axle, Extra Blades, Removeable Tow Bar and Cover

So far so good. Eats 4” lupine and eucalyptus branches no problem. Easy to set up. I did it by myself, but it probably should have been a two person job. It’s engineered well. Strong construction. Light enough that I can wheel it around by hand.electric start worked great. I’m in AZ so I’ll have to put a battery tender on it. Pulling it to start wouldn’t be a ton of fun. Perfect for my yard that has about 65 trees. Saves a ton of space in my dump trailer. I should have bought it 10 years ago.

Works great for what it is and does exactly what I bought it for, which is clearing small trees, and tree limbs from larger trees. Its not a powerful commercial chipper so don’t kid yourself that it will be. I’ve been chipping a lot of pine, fir and cedar trees and limbs. Got a little over five hours on it and the knives are still sharp. For me anything much over four inches is firewood. It will chip six inch material but its stupid and I don’t recommend it. This thing is great at chipping small trees up to about 3.5” and 15 feet long. I have been routinely feeding them thru the chipper whole. It works best when chipping the larger longer trees to hold them back a bit if it starts to bog down too much. Wear gloves because the tree will get pulled in and it takes a bit of strength to hold it back. It does bogs down a bit but I expected it to. Motor is only fourteen horse. It will choke out and bog down on needles. Pine and Fir needles don’t get chopped up and it tends to just kind of puke them out the chute if it’s a bushy tree. This is because the bed knife is adjusted for chipping wood not shredding thin material. The bed knife could be adjusted closer to the drum knives to chop up the needles but then it wouldn’t chip wood. If the wood is really dry it will throw small chunks back out the chute so do not stand behind it. I threw a bunch of dead alder limbs in it and quickly followed with bunches of green limbs to keep the hard dry stuff in contact with the drum and it worked well. Assembly was easy. For stability reasons don’t even bother installing the short axle. Center of gravity is good and Its easy for me to maneuver around by hand. I like the size its easy to tow or front push with a ball around my hilly property. Axles and wheels are not meant for street towing and something bad will happen if you try it. Comes with some cheap wrenches and a useless t-handle socket that does not fit the bolts on the drum. I would not pay full retail for this. It was on sale when I got it and really it should be a lot less. After the warranty is expired I can see modifying it or mounting it on a small trailer to be towable on a road at 50+ mph so someone could borrow it. It really would be nice if it had a thirty horse motor. I have no real complaints. I figure for the amount of work I need to do on the property it will have payed for itself in about three years compared to the inconvenience of renting one numerous times. Now I can continue clearing/chip all summer and don’t worry about slash piles everywhere waiting for winter so I can burn them.Tried to attach pics of tree examples but option is greyed out.

When uou buy this wood chipper/shedder, just remember you are buying a homeowner's model. Then forget about it and feed it, it can take it. It does a very good job! I use mine for sawmill and yard waste.

The stop button fell off . I called the store in Evensville Indiana and got no help at all.

Overall, I love the ease of assembly and ease of operation, favorite feature is the quick access to the drum and blades. This machine gobbles up wood and brush readily but will choke if you overload it. The Kohler engine runs well and starts at the first pull. What I didn’t like was the narrow axle, it’s a tipping hazard, also, the chute diverter requires constant re-tightening. Do not hesitate to buy this awesome wood chipper it functions beautifully, but, (just my advice) do not install the smaller axle, my unit tipped over at 5 mph on the uneven terrain of my lot. Luckily I was able to easily tip it back up nagged it going again. Sadly there was obvious damage to the belt/pulley cover.

Overall I absolutely love this chipper. The stop button did vibrate off because it screws onto a plastic plunger. Spent a whole day chipping guava trees from 3 1/2 inches down in diameter. The wood chips are pretty fine especially compared to commercial wood chipping from the big guys. The engine is a little difficult to start because the blade drum also acts like a fly wheel so you have to have a good pool behind it to get it going. As I get older I might have difficulty starting it. It’s the first wood chipper iPhones so I have nothing to compare it to but I’ve had no issues with it and it works awesome!

Wow, this thing is heavy duty! I first purchased a cheaper Yardmax chipper because that was all they carried in store and I needed it right away. But that was returned within a week because it just didn't do the size of branches that it advertised. Everything over 2" would stall the motor and/or jam. Similarly priced chippers on the website weren't able to be shipped to my state (not sure why), so I moved up to the next price bracket and found this one. This Power King seemed to be the best bang for my buck. As I was uncrating the chipper, I was shocked at the difference in quality. Just the thickness of the metal and the weight of the pieces was night and day from the Yardmax. And unlike the Yardmax, which has a spinning rotor with 2 small blades, (which pushes the wood to one side, making it jam easier), this Power King has a spinning drum with giant blades that span the entire width of the drum, and it even comes with extra blades! We haven't tried anything at 5", so I'm not sure how it would handle those, but it handles the 3" pieces that killed the Yardmax with ease! The chips are also much finer than the Yardmax. The only thing to watch out for is that because of how the blades spin, the wood bounces around a bit with longer pieces, and chunks can fly back out of the chute toward you as it's being chewed up, so be sure to wear your eye protection! I love that it has an hour counter so that we can keep track of maintenance, and a tow bar to hook it to the truck if we need to. We used the included optional wheel axle extender, which I would recommend. It made it really stable and easy for us to move it around by hand, even though it weighs 400 pounds. I love that they included some extras, like safety gear and wingnuts to make opening the chutes easier. Overall, I am really happy with this purchase, even though it was way more than I wanted to spend.
