Q:Is this generator safe for operating portable electronics such as laptops? Can I run a refrigerator, some lights, and the water pump for my baseboard hot water heater?

      Answer This Question

A:  Yes, if correctly grounded and wattage load is within generator capabilities, which would have to be determined for specific items powered. Most items have their electric requirements labeled. Surge protector would be good portable electronics.

      by|Jul 25, 2022

A:  Since each application is unique, we are unable to properly size a unit remotely. We do have a sizing calculator online that can help you get an idea on what generator may be needed, but we strongly recommend working with a dealer to ensure the proper generator is picked.

Great All Around Generator. Fuel Efficient. Easy operation.
Minimal assembly. Okay instructions, small text & diagrams- hard to see exactly how parts installed but not too difficult to figure out- wheels, feet, handle, w/ included wrenches, add included oil using included funnel. Read manual. Add or connect fuel, set choke, pull start. Easy! Easy online registration. Fairly easy to pull start. On the quiet side of small engine noise. Spark arrestor muffler. Easy access ground terminal. Rolls well. Overall a nice size for general use and a basic back-up power source. Selected for DIY projects and as power source for outages. Selected this particular model for the dual fuel feature. Propane is great for intermittent use as it avoids issues with old gasoline, yet can be used if necessary. Propane fuel lasts forever and requires no carburetor issues, making this PowerMate PM4500 Generator a great. All around versatile power source.

          propane or gas
In times of great need getting more gas when snowed in is difficult. With this one, I can hook it up to my 420 lb tank and run for days. this has a sensor so it will shut off if there is a build-up of fumes. That said DO NOT OPERATE IN THE HOUSE. If you use gasoline use gas with no ethanol and use the shut-off valve to use up the rest in the engine. This has never-flat wheels and a handle that flips down to get out of the way. The drawn pictures and directions are not the best but I did get it assembled using the two wrenches provided. This has four 20 amp outlets and one 30 amp outlet. There is also a run time gauge. The manual and specifications and parts list are available under additional resources

          Very nice
This is a very nice generator. I really like the extended handle as it makes moving it around very easy. I have enjoyed being able to run my power tools and 115 V flux core welder in remote locations as well and not having to pull extension cords when near my shop. The dual fuel is also very nice especially when camping as the propane is much easier and safer to transport than gas. The 224 CC engine (approximately 6.5 HP) is plenty of power to get the job done. My only complaint is a petty one. I wish it had an electric start rather than the pull start. However it is very easy to pull.. It comes complete with a small tool kit, funnel for adding oil and a propane hose.

          Power when you need it.
I needed a generator for our camp, mostly so I could run power tools, lights, and such. This Powermate generator fulfills that need. It has a dual fuel capability with the option to change from gasoline to propane with the flick of a switch. Seems to start quickly, but it is unclear how to set the choke lever for starting. It does not seemed to be marked which way to push the choke lever. It's not exactly quiet, but no worse than any other generator I've heard. I'll probably build a cover for it so I can use it in inclement weather, when it will probably most be needed. I also plan to get one of those kits that allow you to hook it directly to your home's breaker box so it will automatically switch off when the power comes back on. They are actually pretty easy to hook up. Then you can select which circuits you want your generator to power. I'm thinking the refrigerator, furnace pump, a light circuit, and some outlets. If you're going to do that, though, make sure you use a power strip to protect your electronic devices from power surges. I noticed when running my chop saw that the engine will idle normally, but will rev when I'm running my saw to meet the increased demand. You'll get around 19 hours of run time on its 5 gallon fuel tank at 25% load and about 10.5 hours on propane. So figure less than that if you're actually using something during those 19 hours. It weighs in at a hefty 109 pounds, but moving it around on its wheels via the folding handle makes it a breeze to move. It comes with a 3 year warranty. It has four 20v outlets and one 240v outlet. It also has a CO sensor so it will shut off automatically if for instance you run it in a garage and it fills with fumes. It's powered by Generac, which is a good brand name in generators. Just a heads up that if you start the engine and you're not getting any power, you'll need to hit the Reset button nearest to the outlet you want to use to activate it. It also comes with a propane connection hose that screws right into the generator.

          A must have ! Excellent !
Powermate PM4500DF 3600-Watt Recoil Start Gasoline/Propane Dual Fuel Portable Generator with CO-Sense With power prices rising and rumors of brownouts and blackouts, this unit is a must! Just think of having to replace a freezer full of food! This unit came professionally packaged and with all the tools needed for assembly (including the motor oil!) Instructions are good along with informative data about care for the unit. Very well done. FYI, the motor oil that is included is exactly the amount for the motor (they even include a funnel!). Manual states for those unfamiliar with breaking in gasoline motors that the included standard oil MUST be used while breaking in the motor before switching to synthetic oil (synthetic oil is way to slippery and will not allow the motor to break-in properly.) Controls are easy to read and there are adequate outlets. A chart within the owners manual shows usual wattage amounts for most common appliances, etc. Nice touch. All in all, we are quite happy with this unit and would highly recommend! A really nice unit!

          Love this generator
The Powermate PM4500 DF is the best generator I have had starts easy runs great and gives you options on fuel you can run Gasoline or Propane and I like having options. It also has the COsence technology that helps to protect you from Carbon monoxide if your using it in an area with little to no air movement, but it's not a good idea to use any gas powered engine in an inclosed area. I like that this generator has four 120 volt 20 amp GFCI outlets with 20 amps it can run even a large refrigerator, it also has a single 120 volt 30 amp outlet.
