4.93 lbs. Extended Control Weed Preventer

It’s been a month now, I applied as directed and no weeds ever died. It looks as if they have grown thicker.

Did a little landscaping in front of our porch. Previously had mulch and weeds constantly kept coming up. Removed the mulch and put down Preen then put rocks in. It has been a couple weeks and no weeds so far. May be too soon to see if it stays working but no signs so far of weeds.

Works Great!! Saves Time and Labor!! I have been a fan of Preen for many years so when I found this new 6-month extended control treatment about 7 months ago, I was very excited to try it. At that time, we were well into spring and I was being lazy because I hadn’t applied any Preen yet in our rock gardens. My spring weeds were terrible and I was spending a lot of time pulling 100’s of tiny weeds. I pulled all the weeds I could find and then I applied about 15 pounds of this new 6-month treatment in my approximately 2,000 square feet of river rock gardens and tree beds. I poured the Preen 6-month treatment granules into my old Preen dispenser container because it makes the granules easier to apply. Then I just shook out the granules where I wanted them and lightly watered them in. The results have been amazing with only a few new weeds popping up in all this time. So now, I’ve bought this new bag of 6-month Preen and I’m ready to apply it again for this coming season.

This is an interesting concept - this is a germination preventer for weeds, but has no effect on growing weeds. This does NOT go on lawns, anywhere you are growing food, nor anywhere you are thinking of planting in the next 12 months. So, this product came in handy for preventing weeds in my rock drainage fields, a rock garden where I didn't want anything growing, and rock filled flagstone footpaths. It is like a fine sand and I found using an old raspberry container made a good spreader for it.

I would rate this as excellent, but I'm not sure yet if it truly will last 6 months or if will prevent most of our weeds problems. Because it's still winter here, I tested it on an indoor planter with weed seeds (dandelion, leafy spurge, thistle, and stinging nettle) that we keep for this very purpose. I planted them almost three weeks ago along with adding the Preen Weed Preventer. So far, as you can see in the photo, not a single weed has sprouted in spite of watering the soil daily and keeping it in the sun. This beats some others we have tried, so this may well be a keeper.

I used this product in a bed with a lot of succulents. Weeds glow around the plants at all times during the year. I removed all the weeds from the bed. I watered down the bed and pulled them out by the root so I hope once the Preen goes on it will prevent now ones from growing. I noticed some reviews stated it didn't work but I was thinking its because it's not a week killer is a week preventer so you have to clear all the weeds out before you spread it. Instructions say to spread it in the area then wet it down. I have it in a large bag so I used a cup to spread it but may have had a heavy hand in some areas and don't do it when the wind is blowing or if you do spread it close to the ground. It has been down a few days and I don't see any new growth yet. So far so good. I will wait for a few weeks to and try to update this review. Directions state to use in spring then re apply 3 months later.

I have been very happy with the performance of Preen's extended control weed preventer. I used it last spring and summer for the first time and it did an excellent job of preventing weeds from growing in our flower beds for several months. About mid-summer I did a second application of Preen that carried us through to October and kept our flower beds looking great. In preparation for the upcoming 2020 growing season I ordered this 21.45 lbs. bag which should suffice for the entire growing season in keeping our flower beds weed free. Well done Preen!

I bought a small bag of Preen last year to see if it actually works. I applied it to the front garden where the weeds tend to go crazy and require constant effort to keep in check. The plants are too close together for weed killer, especially at the borders where the lawn allows for weeds to seed and creep over into the flowers. I went away on a long trip and came back three months later. The garden looked pristine! Preen had done a better job on its own than I could do with weekly efforts chasing down weeds. I got this larger bag this year. My garden area is enormous, about 1/3 of my lot, so I need help! The grains look like cornmeal, so they are easy to spot as you apply them to soil. It was very easy to apply just the right amount using a trowel and sprinkling it over the area. Of special note is the plant I took pictures of. It's a low spreading plant that will root if allowed to touch the soil. The problem is that weed seeds fall between the fronds and root under there, as well. The pictures show the removal of existing weeds around and under this plant (this product is not a weed killer; it prevents weeds from sprouting, so you have to remove existing things you don't want before application). You can see that you need very little for the product to work. I thought I would use the entire bag and possibly not cover all the garden areas, but I actually had a quarter or more of the bag left over. I've put this on my calendar to remind me to reapply in six months. It's the most effective product I've found, and is especially useful in areas like mine, where the growing season is nearly year-round. Now I can spend more time on the fun parts of gardening rather than weeding!

Time will tell how well this product suppresses the weeds. But if it works as well as the product claims, I can have my summers back since I won't be spending it on my knees pulling weeds. I plan to sprinkle this in my front and side plots over mulch. The idea is use this product in early spring to keep the weeds from sprouting. There's a dispenser you can purchase and this bag as a refill.

This is NOT a weed killer, it is a weed PREVENTER. It keeps weed seeds from germinating so it's safe to use around established plants without damaging them, although I'd still keep it away from edibles. Application is easy. I use an old PREEN shaker can (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, right?), but you can also use a handheld broadcast spreader or wheeled drop spreader. Just follow the directions for application. I can't say this prevents ALL weeds from sprouting, but I do notice a significant reduction in the number of new weeds with regular application. Spot treatment with weed killer is still occasionally needed, but no where near as frequently or extensively as without using PREEN.
