Q:Can this be used on pressure treated lumber?
    by|May 24, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  As long as Preserva Wood can penetrate, or soak into the wood, then you can apply it to any lumber, including pressure treated lumber. We recommend allowing the pressure treated lumber to air dry for one month prior to staining.

Q:How do you open this type of 5 gallon metal lid?
      by|May 11, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  The metal lid attaches to the pail via a method of small ears that are bent over the edge of the container. To remove the lid, place the tip of a screwdriver in the little hole in the middle of the tab and bend it back. Once all of the tabs have been bent back, or released, then you will be able to remove the lid. To re-seal, simply press the lid onto the pail and bend several of the ears back into position to hold the lid in place. Seal as tightly as possible for storage, so the stain is not exposed to any additional fresh air. If you only have a gallon left, transfer to a one gallon container for storage.

Q:Is this the same as the can with the Pacific Redwood with the purple stripes on the top and bottom of the can??
        by|May 10, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Yes! What you describe is an older version of our label design, but if the can says Preserva Wood and Pacific Redwood, it's the same stain that it was the last time you purchased it.

Exactly the color I was looking for
Used on cedar wood deck boards. Turned out amazing. Color a very strong red tint. Love it.

I refinished an old bench with this- the bench was VERY dry. This went on well, and has a nice color. Two days later it was dry enough to use. Possibly it could be used quicker, but I didn't want to sit on the bench and get lines on my pants. Good product, decent price.

The worst stain we have ever used
Followed all prep and application instructions. First off this stain did not go on smoothly. The manufacturer will tell you that it is only intended to be applied in one coat but this stain DOES NOT cover using only one coat and is incredibly uneven and tacky!!!! The picture shown is after only less than 18 months after application. It actually started fading and discoloring much sooner than that. Not to mention it required much more stain than its has in the past and we went through 4 sprayers to to get it done. VERY dissatisfied and would not recommend this product due to the poor durability and quality. I see in many reviews that the manufacturer keeps saying that the instructions must not have been followed when it comes to their product as a reason to why there are so many negative customer results and turns out it's just a poor quality product.

With over 100 Four and Five Star reviews for our Pacific Redwood, it's one of our most popular products, as you can see from the many beautiful pictures posted by our customers. Thank you for posting pictures, they are very helpful. Much of the wood in your pictures looks great. Your blue star with a metallic rim seems to be leaching something onto the wood, which is causing iron oxide staining. Similarly, the dark wood in your other picture appears to have a ground moisture issue. If there was a problem with the stain, all of the wood would be dark. After a year and a half, a good cleaning with a detergent based cleaner would be helpful. Please contact us directly if you need further assistance with your project. (info@preservaproducts.com)

The worst stain for our cedar house
We properly prepared our cedar sided house prior to staining. The stain did not apply smoothly and after a year you can see a lot of discoloration. The discoloration started just several months after applying. The picture shown was taken less than 18 months after the stain was applied. We went through much more stain than it took previously in the past. Very very very dissatisfied with this product and will never purchase again due to the poor quality and durability.

Easy to apply, striking red color
Used this for the covered ramada that I’m building. Preserva wood exterior stain is easy to apply and at Home Depot, the price was just right.

We built some planter boxes out of redwood and I thought this stain would really make the wood pop, but it looks really worn and washed out instead (like a stain that's been there for a couple years). The color that's in the product picture is very misleading -- it's nowhere near as rich a red/mahogany-ish color as it shows. I tried putting another layer of stain on it a couple months later and it still dried to the same old color. :/ In terms of application, it's easy to apply and hopefully it does protect the wood (hasn't been enough time to tell). Next time around, I'll go with another color.

Response from Preserva ExpertNov 27, 2019
Preserva Wood Pacific Redwood has enough pigment, that you should be able to see the red color. We are concerned that the 5 gallon pail you purchased was not stirred properly prior to application. The pigments will settle to the bottom of the can, so you have to stir the stain well, prior to and during application. The condition of your wood will have a big impact on the way it looks after staining. If the wood is dark before staining, then it will be dark after staining, and vice versa. Our instructions recommend that you stain a small section and allow it to dry overnight before you evaluate the final appearance of our stain. This way, you can be confident that you will be happy with the results.
