Yes, the spikes should be fine to pound into paver base.

The path has an incline for the first 10 ft that can not be avoided. Should I try to score the bottom of the trim to make it work?

With the spikes in place, the edging is not going to move, even on an incline.

The edging sits next to the pavers and the spikes go down into the ground.

This Plastic Is A LOT Tougher Than You Think!
So when I originally requested this item through the Home Depot Seeds program, I expected that I would be evaluating this product in a live patio construction environment. Unfortunately my back was injured before I was going to install this trim, so I am falling back on my experience with landscaping patios, gardens and walkways at two different houses. Regarding the material the trim is constructed of, I can say that I have seen it last over 25 years without failure. Since it largely is below the walking surface, UV degradation is not a concern. When it comes down to design of the product and how it functions, it actually is very similar to most vinyl patio trim on the market. You provide a compacted level base below the surface, lay the trim in place, forming it to the contours as appropriate and stake it in place. That's it, no other steps involved other than laying your patio bricks and such. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product. The only thing I would suggest the manufacturer put more effort into is the single sheet of instructions. The print quality was very poor to the point the font had not completely printed out in various places. Not a show stopper by any means, but worth mentioning.

great product
The edging is easy to use makes corners easy after you make one easy cut the plastic spikes seem to hold the edging down rather well. You could use the edging as a guide as your building your walkway to help keep the blocks in line. You can easily cut to length with a hack saw and when your done laying out your blocks and the edging is all in place just cover it over with your choice of fill and your done.

Perfectly simple
These edges were exactly what I needed to give my new garden walkway a finished look. I am a 58 year old woman intent on reimagining my drought stirken lawn. I am using stepping stones to delineate 6 sections that will have new drought happy plants (some but not all succulents). The edges are strong, but I can easily cut them down to size with a hack saw. Using a rubber mallet, I can quickly drive the stakes into the ground. If I decide that I have positioned them incorrectly, I just pull them out of the ground and pound them into position. Very pleased (and my husband has stopped complaining that this will look like an amature job).

Works beautifully~Easy to install
This edging was very easy to install. I just needed to finish the flower bed in front of my porch with something simple and this kit along with some pretty pavers from Home Depot helped me accomplish just that. It was very easy to install all by myself. Once my plants are down I will add some pretty stones. I would have liked twice as many spikes as I felt there were not enough. But I will definitely use this kit again!

It works pretty good.
This is a nice product. Using these for the first time after a prior installation of a different walkway using treated 2x4 lumber. The kit came with 4 pieces of edging and 16 hard plastic spikes. The spikes are long enough to do the job of holding the edging. The paver edging is heavy duty and should hold up forever. Instructions within the kit were limited, but then again, not having moving parts, a caveman can do it. I find these worth the investment as I know they will hold the base material under the paver blocks. I know the freezing and thawing in my area, allows the base material to weaken and spread out if the material is not contained. The picture attached shows where I used the kit. The stones are on a paver base and paver sand foundation. There's a slight arch to the walkway and this is where I give these ProFlex paver edging a four star rating. They don't bend that way. I ended up scoring the bottom of the paver edge guides so I could flex them to the slight arch so they would lay flat on the base. Now, if you have a snaking walk way, these will do just fine as they have an edge (normally hidden by dirt) that you can easily cut with hand wire cutters or something similar. Installing pavers is a big job. A lot of work. Do it right. These are well worth an investment. note: the silver spike heads are from a non affiliated application. I added these spikes to my project but were not really necessary.

A must when installing a brick or concrete paver patio. Good quality kit. Easy to use.
Paver edging is a must when installing a brick or concrete paver patio, to keep the perimeter of the pavers from moving and floating out over time, which will cause gaps in your new patio This kit includes 24-ft of edging that is supplied in four 6-ft. lengths, which is easy to work with. Simply place the lengths of edging next to each other and anchor them into place by hammering down the provided 8-in. nylon spikes with a light hammer or rubber mallet. 16 spikes are included with this kit, allowing for 4-spikes per 6-ft. length. My patio had a couple of soft curves, which require more effort to stay in place, so even though the kit contains everything needed, I purchased additional spikes to ensure the curved edging remained in place. The edging comes in straight lengths, but curves are easily accomplished by snipping the spines to make the edging flexible. Aside from spikes, individual 6-ft pieces as well as kits containing more or less length of edging is available for purchase at The Home Depot, so you can purchase the length you need and minimize waste and expense. When installed and backfilled with topsoil, the edging is virtually invisible, however to in order to keep the edging at or below the ground surface, so as not to create a trip hazard, it’s important to use pavers with a nominal height of at least 2-in. This installation of this paver edging kit ensures that my paver patio will look great for years to come. I installed a 750 sq. ft. paver patio, and installed ProFlex edging around the perimeter that was not retained by a structure such as the house, garage, or basement bulkhead, approximately two years ago. Despite two years of harsh New England weather, the pavers haven’t shifted and my patio looks as good today as the day it was installed. I plan to build a walkway leading from the driveway to my front door using concrete pavers retained in place with ProFlex edging. Highly recommended.

Worth the Extra Expense
I'm using this ProFlex 24 ft. Paver Edging Project Kit on a 15 ft. X 10 ft. paver patio I'm building in my backyard. I always want my projects to look professional and this kit does just that. I still have a ways to go before finishing everything but I tested the edging on one side of the patio. Once the spikes are nailed in the edging sits firmly against the edge stones I'm using. This ProFlex Paver Edging is an extra expense but well worth it to keep you project looking good long after it's done.

Excellent Product
This time I built a brick pavers walkway I dug 6" borders and poured concrete. That was a lot of work and time consuming. These paver edgings make the job so much easier. Being able to snip the crossbar allows the user to bend the edging to any configuration. The edging is very strong and the pavers are not going to move. The product is a bit pricey, but it sure beats the old method.

This product is easy to use and holds my edging stones in place perfectly. It could have had a few more of the plastic spikes. But overall, works great.
