I have long multiple, sinuous curves as long as 60 feet. Some of the curves are pretty tight (about 4' radius.) Since the edging pieces are only six feet long, I worry that it will be hard to build it without ending up with slight angles at each joint. I understand that the edging parts are not attachable, so it's harder to maintain an even flowing curve. Any suggestions?
Asked by: MG
I just completed an 80-foot sidewalk with similar characteristics: tight serpentine curves and a steep incline to boot. I had no issues getting the ends to line up almost as if the edging were one very long piece. I did use a few long metal spikes - instead of just the short nylon spikes included in the kit - at critical points to keep things really secure. A couple of the joints were slightly off (less than 1/4") but when it came to laying the pavers I simply worked with those spots a little and it was fine. On one outside joint it made a slight point (ever so slight) but that won't hurt a thing as it will be hidden by dirt and grass once I complete the landscaping. Hope this helps!

Asked by: Dennis
They are shutter up to each other. If you overlap them we found the upper edge would be raised too. The spikes really are long and hold them securely.

Hi, could someone explain if you install this before or after the pavers are in place? I'm going to be installing over gravel, but I'm sure I need to remove some of it to accommodate the pavers, and I think there must be some sand underneath, right?
Asked by: sPlath
On top of the gravel, under the sand.

Always see picture of edging with the spikes tot he outside of the pavers. Anything wrong with doing it the other way, put the spikes on the inside, such that the pavers are on top of spikes? I think it would be a cleaner install, plus I can screen the sand over them and only have them a half inch or so above the ground....so they do not look intrusive.
Asked by: CWJ
It is actually better to put the paver on top of the spikes, especially if you live in a climate where frost heaving occurs. My opinion from experience.

My application was a fairly demanding sidewalk (of pavers) which twisted and turned and went up a steep incline. I was able to bend and secure this edging to meet the exact specifications of the design, and it held fast as the pavers and binding sand were installed. The nylon spikes (included) were sometimes not up to my requirements along the way and I added a few (longer) metal spikes here and there as needed, but that was not a big deal. In the process of building the new sidewalk, a much older one was demolished and the 15+ year old plastic edging in that one was still solid as can be. I will continue to use this product for future projects, and recommend it for its intended applications.

I just had new sod installed around my round paver walkway and the problem I always have is that the grass always grows over them over time and buries them. I used this product to contain pea pebbles around the pavers. I installed the edging and then put strong weed fabric between, securing it with long staples. Then I put the pavers back and put the pebbles down. It was labor intensive but worth it!!

Cuts and bends easily and makes nice 90° corners around pavers. I just have two suggestions to diy'ers: 1) Place the top of the edging just below the top of the pavers because it looks nice and you can pour polymeric sand in between the pavers and the edging; and 2) Leave a 1/4 inch spacing between the pavers to allow the polymeric sand to fill in between pavers. Other than that, I think it's a nice kit.

We purchased 8 6' pieces and stakes at our local store to construct a paved 12' x12' area. Happened to check on line and found the exact same components in a kit for $50 less. So if your project requires materials for 144 sq ft or larger, skip the store and order on line.

The paving edger worked as expected, although I ordered black, the shipping ticket said black and the shipping box was labeled box, and the edging was gray. This is not critical in this situation since it is not exposed, but would have caused delays in the work otherwise.

To have the desired spacing of eighteen inches, it takes one at the start and one at the end with three on the inside at 18, 36, and 54 inches for a total of five. Other than that, this product does a good job.
