I need Info for spacing to install hooks and chains on the post before the caps will be delivered.
Post caps were rough cut. Had not been sanded and even had large splinters of wood hanging off the edges. Mitered cuts on corners did not align and there were gaps on the assembled corners. Post cap was put together so poorly that it did not fit over our 6x6 post. Returned items to my local store and even the cashiers said they couldn't believe how awful they were and couldn't believe that this would be sold by Home Depot. Im no professional, but I can cut better angles and assemble wood pieces better than whoever made these post caps. DONT BUY!

My rough cedar post dimensions are 5 7/8 x 5 7/8" actual, thus I assume the 6x6 fancy post cap won't fit?

Would the recommendation be to glue the cap?
Apply an exterior-grade adhesive to the underside of the cap and slip it over the top of the post. Use hotdip, galvanized finishing nails in high-use areas as needed.
