Im overall impressed with this surveillance system. It was time consuming to install only because I had to fish wires and get in my attic to complete instillation. It wasn't difficult for me to complete installation, I am proficient with tools and installing appliances and lighting fixtures. You don't need to be an expert to get the job done, just some patients and a basic DIY'er still set. The actual install of the wiring is pretty simple, locate the desired placement of the cameras and the DVR Unit, then you simply work from the camera back to the DVR with the included wires. They are simple plug and play wires and are easy to attach to the cameras and the DVR. Getting the DVR connected to a monitor is simple (monitor not included) but all required cable were included. I had no issues getting the cameras connected to the system and working. The quality of the images is far superior to my previous system,. I like the navigation of the controls both from the app and the program you use on the monitor. I am ordering 2 additional cameras to get better coverage of my exterior and pool area. I also like that this system, has PIR passive infrared which makes the motion detection much more accurate.

This is a great home security camera system in a box for sending day and night alerts to your phone or PC. It is relatively straightforward to install however the setup is a little more involved and takes a little patience to navigate through the user interface that Q-See provides. The kit includes four compact HD color cameras with a night vision range of around 50’. Each camera comes with a 60’ spool of video/power cable. Also included is a 1 terrabyte DVR, and a mouse and the various cables needed to power the cameras and connect the DVR to an external monitor (not supplied). The system can be expanded with an additional 4 cameras (to a total of 8) however the basic 4 camera system was perfect for our residential needs. While the user guide supplied with the system has enough information to get you up and running, a visit to Q-See’s customer support website was useful as it had more information on the customization of the system such as naming each camera and setting up motion sensing zones/motion exclusion zones. This is the second Q-See camera system I have owned and they have made improvements in a couple of key areas: 1) The DVR is much quieter and can sit on a desk in the room you are in without becoming an annoyance with fan noise 2) The process of connecting the DVR to my home network and connecting the phone app to the DVR is a much more straightforward process In this case, we attached the cameras onto the eave boards so we could cover the front door, back door, garage and driveway. The wiring is simple to connect and we ran it along the eaves and into the loft and then down inside the wall cavity to the office area where, using a fish tape, we brought them out of the wall close to the location of the DVR. With the cameras and the DVR connected to a 23” monitor with an HDMI connector and powered up, the DVR presents a set up wizard which is quite easy to follow. I would strongly recommend not using the default 123456 password for the Admin account since hackers scour the internet for connected devices like camera DVRs with their default passwords and then distribute malware to them, so be sure change the password as part of the initial set up (we experienced the virus issue with our other Q-See DVR and fixing it requires a system reset which wipes out all your customized settings). I was surprised that Q-See doesn’t have a keyboard interface and still relies on their rather clunky mouse driven interface and it would be nice if they would at least offer support for a USB keyboard (which most households probably have for their PC) as it would make the initial set up process a lot more intuitive. We configured things like the name of the DVR and each camera (front door, garage, back door etc.) as well as set the time and time zone using the user interface on the DVR. This interface can also be used to fine tune the cameras (brightness, contrast etc.) as well as setting up motion zones and masks to ensure that motion from nearby areas such as the sidewalk doesn’t cause unnecessary alerts. The interface can also be used to control the amount of seconds that the camera captures video when motion is detected as well as replay of captured videos and management of the DVR. With the DVR connected with an Ethernet cable to our Verizon high speed internet hub, we then downloaded the QTView app from the Google Play store (also available for iOS) and used the QR code reader in the app to scan the QR code decal on the top of the DVR. This then pairs the phone with the DVR and you just enter the admin password to open the phone app. We configured which cameras would send notifications to the phone (front door, rear door/garage) and also whether the notifications would be sent to the phone. When a notification arrives, once you open it you can quickly see the video replay of whatever it was that triggered the camera to create the notification. With the phone app you can view the output for all four cameras in a tile format and double tap on any of the live feeds to go full screen and zoom in. The app also supports still picture and video so that if you get an alert and notice something untoward going on, you can record pictures and video directly to your phone for later reference. Through a combination of the User interface on the DVR and the mobile phone, we were able to get the cameras installed and functioning as we wanted after about a day’s work, with some editing of the motion zones so that we don’t get notifications for things we’re not concerned about like passing pedestrians on the sidewalk or our next door neighbors in their back yard since the camera can see over the side wall. In addition to the Android and iOS mobile apps for remote monitoring, Q-See also offers Windows and Apple Mac versions for PC-based monitoring however we didn’t install these as the mobile app was sufficient for our needs. With the system providing the security features we need, I can now sit down and browse the Q-See support website so I can learn about some of the more detailed features and settings of the DVR and the mobile app and fine tune the set up over the coming days.

I would recommend Q See Surveillance system. I have used Q SEE products in the past and I think they really are a quality surveillance system. Clear and outstanding video quality. Easy install and easy to follow directions. The size of the camera is great, they fit easily into most areas that you need to connect them to. Body heat and motion alerts. Trees and leaves moving in the wind will not set off the cameras. You can custom the area that you want for motion detection. Mobile alerts right to your phone or ipad, when you set up the free APP. View live camera footage during both Day and Night. 1080p 8 Channel DVR and 4 camera included. You will need to provide a monitor, all other parts needed are included.

Great system
Great system took me a little longer to get set up as was not sure what all I would need. Wire sent was 60ft per cam and I needed more wire so ordered 4 60 ft rolls with connectors, then had nothing to use for display that I was not already using so ordered another 27" LED HP monitor & a new desktop computer as I use one for me, another for my weather systems and now the Qsee cameras are all on there own computer. Did not really need a computer system comes ready to just plug in to a tv or a monitor an before all computer stuff arrived, used the 27" monitor as it came in first, cant adjust the screen size so wanted it on computer so I can control. After wire came in I started to install cameras but slow moving as temps in the 90 with high humidity, so only worked short time in the shade. finally all equipment showed up keyboard was last, took a hour or so to set up computer and put on chrome & internet employer. Tried to set up with included instructions but was easy without the computer so called customer service, they went on my computer and set up the whole thing, took maybe an hour as I had them explain the whole system and installation to me, Guy was great and we got it going and I love it. Worst in the whole setup is running the wire then adjusting the cameras, as you have to set go in to monitor and check out view then back and forth till you get what you want, then inside on screen you can adjust camera one at a time for color, etc. Wished pictures were better but taken off the monitor look grainy but they are very sharp on the monitor. Now my only problem is spiders seem to love the new cameras so keeping the clean off is about it. Really is way better than I expected. System is well worth the cost have checked out lots of systems and this one is worth it.

Q-See out of business
Q-See just shut down, so there is NO support for any of their products now, including the remote access. So even if you bought one before, it will now only work locally, with no updates. The DDNS service is stopping.

In the description said it comes with a 2-TB hard drive, but when I got it up and running and went into the System Disk Management, it only showed it had a 1-TB hard drive installed. Other than that it is a good camera system. I have 3 other QTH98 camera systems up and running and have had no issues with them.

First things first I probably should've plugged it in first to make sure I got what I paid for but its unfortunate that I paid for the model that supposedly included a hard drive but after running cables and installing cameras I've come to the realization there isn't one installed. I realized this after trying to set up a spot to save the recordings but nothing is there so I opened the DVR up since I have experience opening these types of things up and what do you know I don't see one so I had to buy one...which sucks since I really didn't get what I paid for.
