Product Overview

The Soft Top is a remarkable foam cover that is not affected by the chemicals found in spas. Unlike most foam covers on the market the Soft Top does not absorb water. The foam cover comes in a roll at a dimension of 82 in. x 88 in. which you can trim to custom-fit the shape of your spa. The cover floats on top of the spa water to retain heat and condensation. To obtain the utmost in energy efficiency, use the Soft Top with a rigid, hard cover; the dead air space that forms between the two covers provides excellent protection against heat loss. Compared to commonly use solar blanket material, the Soft Top will last much longer and insulate far better.
  • Closed cell foam resists water absorption
  • Resistant to chemicals normally found in hot tub water
  • Maintains a barrier of air between water and hard cover
  • Helps prevent heat loss and enhance energy efficiency
  • Use in conjunction with a rigid cover for best results

Can this be cut with just any scissors? How hard is it to customize to your tubs shape

Asked by Dubbs March 25, 2021

Answer

Yes, most scissors will work just fine. The first one was challenging but, I used the "bubble" cover I was using as a pattern. Then, when I replaced the first one I used it as a pattern and made small adjustments with the second purchase replacement and copied it several times since. Every 9 or 12 months or more. Randy

Sure you could -- but you'd lose a lot of heat -- it's designed to be an extra layer of insulation under the regular folding cover

I use this cover only in combination with a heavy, 4 inch thick, cover normally used for a spa. The large cover protects this foam cover from any wind. I use it to reduce evaporation of the water and the spa and it works very well for that and I believe it also substantially reduces the heating requirements. This foam cover is heavier than a bubble cover but it is not very heavy and I suspect any substantial wind will take it off.

Does it matter which side sets in the water?

No, both sides are the same. Once you cut it you'll find that only one side will float on the water.

The first one we had like this lasted almost 7 years before deteriorating, primarily due to ozone exposure.

We love this product! It is very effective in keeping the temperature constant in our hot tub in conjunction with our hard top cover. It is easy to cut to customize the fit of your hot tub. Don't let the thinness deceive you. It is very dense but pliable. We highly recommend this product! As an added bonus it arrived 4 days earlier than scheduled!

Given the irregular size of our tub, cutting this out accurately was a challenge. But since our tub is in a covered porch and sun/leaves etc. are not a concern, it seems to work as expected. Had some cold nights (30’s) last week, but the cover seems to keep the tub warm for a decent period of time before the pumps have to kick in to hold temp. A couple hundred cheaper than a custom top.

We had a similar one for 7 years which held up great, given we have and ozone generator, which can eat away at them. Unable to find a replacement through the our local hot tub dealer or other online suppliers, we opted for lesser quality ones to at least help with the energy cost of running a hot tub in Maine winters. Neither lasted more than a couple seasons before rotting or falling apart. Once again, in search of a new one for the coming winter, we located this one through Home Depot on line. It is of the same material as our original hot tub blanket,, no seams, easy to cut and easy fitted to out Hot Springs Vanguard tub. Already (one month in) we have noticed a significant reduction of moisture on our main cover, also indicating less Ozone exposure. We are now looking forward to a reduction in our winter electric bill!! FYI: If you slightly overfill your hot tub by an inch or so and float the blanket on it before cutting, you should get a pretty close fit, similar to the one shown at the Home Depot sight.

Good product. Great thermal blanket. Stays in place, doesn’t bunch up like bubble type product can. Keeps spa water temp up as promised. Arrived early, but not 7’x7’ as stated. Had to be trimmed but easy to do with scissors.
