Could this be used for a ceiling to reduce noise?

Asked by Kris January 14, 2021

I really don't think so unless you were very creative in your installation such as glueing it to plywood and installing it in panels mechanically. It is on the heavy side so trying to put it directly on the ceiling would be extremely difficult.

I would stick with the designed underlayment that has the vapor barrier in it. There are different grades to choose from. My experience with basements is they always have moisture issues to some degree.

Is this treated with any chemicals?

Asked by Peggy September 20, 2020

Only the manufacturer would know for sure but there were no odors other than the natural smell of cork and there is no visible coating. The chemicals would be in the adhesive if you glue it down.

Yes it should.

Can you float the cork over concrete as a sound barrier for ceramic tile or should it be glued down when laying large ceramic tile with mortar.

I floated it on top of sub flooring. I consulted a local flooring company who said it should work also on concrete. Hope this helps. Just be sure it's secured properly. You may want too use a flooring adhesive.

does QEP cork have formaldehyde or isocyanate?

I don’t believe so, it’s just cork; a natural sound barrier and has microbial properties. :)

Not sure how it would look but it does muffle noise. I used mine under laminate flooring. Look for the cork tiles that have adhesive on the back.

Very happy with the product
It was perfect for my job I needed 1/4 inch with my new flooring so that I didn’t need to change my doors plus it blocked the sound when my husband is walking and I’m watching tv downstairs.

Cork floor underlay
This cork was used as underlay for manufactured wood floating flooring and the result was a very solid and quiet floor, I am really happy with the results.

Worked great for our unconventional use of it-we backed it with white board, framed it and mounted it on the wall for large cork boards on our group room walls, as buying this product was the most reasonably priced way to go.

I used the natural cork underlayment as a background for my dart board. After cutting to the dimension I needed I had one continuous piece without seams. I attached it to the wall with double-sided tape used for carpeting. This worked out quite well. Once the cork was laid in place I used pine lumber (applied a cherry stain as a finish prior to cutting it) to frame the cork background. The end product came out very nice.

Pretty Good, but...
I bought this for resurfacing preschool bulletin boards. I had three 8' boards, so I thought this would be perfect. After I cut the first 8' section, I kept unrolling the roll to cut the next section only to discover this was two 12.5' sections taped together and then rolled up as one. I'm sure that is not a problem for flooring, but one of my bulletin boards has a seam down the middle and isn't quite as nicely aligned as the other two. The other two bulletin boards look great.

Great Value!!!
Quality 1/4" cork, cuts easily and makes fine looking cork panels at a fraction of the cost of manufactured cork-boards. While about 20' of one edge was damaged in shipping, the sale price combined with a $25 HD Gift Card made me a happy camper!

Good underlayment
Went down nice and flat with a slight curl up on the cut ends, used a board to secure the cork until the glue dried. Handle it delicately as it can rip easily - once glued down, the rip was not noticeable. Used a roller to adhere the underlayment to the glue. I am very happy with how the product performed.
