A:  It can be but you have to score it till you are about 3/8” into it. I found using a circular saw with a blade you are happy to throw away works better

Q:Can this be used on vinyl floor planks?

A:  This was designed to cut backer board and have a rather blunt edge on them, so no, Dave they would not efficiently cut vinyl floor planks. A good quality utility knife will do the job. I used the Husky Folding Lock-Back Utility Knife, which has a quick blade change feature, and it works very well for this purpose. (And no, I don't work for Home Depot, but I shop there a lot.) Just have a lot of blades handy so when they get dull, you will be able to keep cutting. I tried two ways to cut vinyl: Score and break, and just cut through. I found that with vinyl flooring, just cutting completely through does a nice job. Good luck, Dave!

A:  The backerboard scoring knife is not intended to be used to cut vinyl floor planks. Instead, we would recommend a utility knife or one of our Roberts Floor Cutters. Customer Care

Great job and did the trick
I bought this along with cement Hardie backerboard and as a 5'4 120 lb woman, it was no problem at all cutting that cement board with this scoring knife. Not sure how many times I had to score it before I could snap the board in half (maybe 50 times???). It wasn't hard or strenuous work though. I ended up cutting the board into 4 pieces with no problem at all.

I used this backboard knife on 4x8" sheets of Wonder-board for 850 sq ft of floor. It lasted thru to the end of the job with no problem and is still sharp! We had to do a lot of cutting and this tool was up to the task. Forget about trying to cut cement board with a regular utility knife, this is the right tool for the job and is very reasonably priced to boot.

VERY easy to use. I found that after multiple boards the handle became loose. Easy fix. Just tighten the screws. After cutting about 15 times tip is still as sharp as when I bought it.

            Game Changer
Compared to using a sharp utility knife that would dull on a single cut, this literally makes the job 100 times easier. The carbide tips haven't lost any bite after a hundred or so cuts so far. The longer handle allows for a lot more force than I got with the Utility Knife. About five swipes along a clamped Straight Edge and Ive been getting a pretty clean-cut.

Gets the job done much quicker than a razor knife. Simple, well made hand tool.
