A: Plenty. It breaks below the tile just about even with its underside.
A: Yes,clips are designed to break off below the surface of the tile.
A: You can, but the pliers make it a whole lot easier/quicker. I did a small bathroom without them by hand, and was glad I got the pliers when I did the next larger job.
A: Yes, but the pliers would be better. I have never tiled before, but youtube.com was very helpful for me. After getting the mortar down and the tiled back-buttered, lay it in place. We were installing 6x24 inch tile, so one leveler on each end, and two or sometimes three levelers for the long side. Once we had a couple of rows in, I went back and used the pliers to set the leveler with the wedge. Be careful though, just the slightest over pressure, the leveler snaps. Sometimes you can get it swapped out for another, but sometimes not. Sometimes you just need to go a bit more cost for better results. Our master bedroom, master closet, master bath were all done with 6x36 inch tile, but we used different type of leveler. Name escapes me right, but the tile insert was black with a large post running up the middle of the base. It had spiral threads on the post. Why threads, because the 2nd part of this leveler system consisted of a red cone shaped cap that was placed on the post and spun down to the tile and finger tightened. No Breakage, tops spun off easily, and posts were a bit more stout at breaking off. Hope this helps on your project.
