Q:I guess I should have explained myself more clearly. Is the post round. when set in concrete, is the concrete going to be able to keep the post from rotating? usually post that are square are not able to rotate.

Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Yes, the post is round. From our experience installing our products for local customers, the concrete adheres to the post and is able to keep the post from rotating when the concrete sets. The key is to follow the cement manufacturer's instructions on the proper mixture of cement and water. If you want to add something to the post to make the round post irregular and enables the concrete to grab onto more surface area, that will increase the chances of the pole not rotating after the cement cures. You can drill a hole near the bottom of the post, pass through a 5" bolt, add a nut on the bolt to prevent the bolt from falling out, and then put that part of the post into the wet cement. This will give you more surface area for the cement to grab onto and further prevent the post from rotating.

Q:Is the post round? when ancored with concrete, whats going to keep the assembly from rotating?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Yes, this is a 3" outside diameter round pole. We have never had an issue with the pole rotating after installation when using concrete. Some things to remember is to follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing the concrete and making the hole shaped like a bell rather than a carrot. If you want to go the extra mile, you can add a bracket or pass-through bolt to the base of the post before setting into the concrete. This would give the post more material to hold onto and prevent the post from rotating.
