I let mine dry out as much as possible. They never disintegrate, but they do get very light when they are completely dry. No need to poke a hole in them, just put them in a sunny location to dry out and toss them in the garbage. I don't know if they are compostable, but I rather doubt it.

My neighbor complained that my above ground pool is creating large puddles in her yard. Will this prevent all seepage?

I'm unclear how your pool would be causing puddles in her yard, but if the water is flowing above ground, these could help. Note, they are abt 3 1/2" high so you may need to brick-stack them. Also, they do have a finite lifespan, so I don't know how long they would last, but I'd guess they'd get you through the summer season.

The directions say that salt causes the gel to release the water and the bag will deflate.

I would not leave them against any wooden structure (Door or shutters) for long period as moisture from the bags my damage the wood. It really depends: Block the water from entering or damage a bit of wood.

Can these be used on Lake Michigan to stop erosion on the beach?

They are designed to sit on solid ground and prevent water from coming up past them (as long as the water isn't higher than them). I would be concerned that the sand under them would errode. Also, I don't think they are a long-term solution, more of a periodic solution of heavy rains because over time I've noticed they lose their filling (the little gel balls that absorb the water). This also makes me think they aren't good for the environment- I don't know what the gel balls are made of, but they do disappear over time.

Bought this product exactly 2 years ago and found them to be very useful, but they need to be taken care of when you no longer need them-otherwise they'll just be about a 1-2 season use. Just wanted to give advice to be sure to protect them from environmental damages (sun, wind) after using them. I left my bags out for 2 years (my fault) and didn't protect them from the elements. I posted 2 pictures and you can see that the bags split apart and the polymer inside came out. Inside is very lumpy with a gel-like texture. I would still buy these bags again if I need to. (I think the manufacturer only intended this to be a 6-12 month product? but I definitely got my monies worth!)

These flood bags do an excellent job of collecting water at the edge of my patio before it has a chance to rise to the point that water may come in under my back door, which a few years ago that was about to happen. They have saved this from happening several times and I always have a supply of bags on hand. I totally recommend them for blocking water. If they become totally immersed with water, it is impossible to dry them out and reuse them. Once full of water, they are heavy, but I manage to get them into the trash can and throw away.

BEST PRODUCT EVER !!!!!!! We have an old sandstone basement and water will seep in when the ground is saturated. We keep these around the inside perimeter of the basement year round; and we've been using the same Quick Dams for over 2 years! They dry out and fill up over and over. We used to have water seeping in and running under the furnace. Not anymore! I can't say enough good about all the Quick Dam products! Saved us from continually mopping up a wet basement!

Quick Dam was very easy to use and it worked! We were expecting to get heavy rain and 2-3 ft storm surge, we were worried about our basement door just above sea level... we used many of the Quick Dam expanding barriers ( a bit of over kill but worried about how much water was expected) ..... and we did not get any water in our basement. This product is so convenient! Just open up the package, put on the ground and soak with a hose and they expanded. We used many bags of the barriers... so I filled in a large plastic bin and just soaked the bags for a quicker expansion. I highly recommend! I also used the 5' barrier and it worked very well redirecting water flowing down my driveway.

These gel bags are amazing. They're so light weight when they are dry. I "started" them in at bucket of water. After the rain storm they were fully saturated. These are great, but I also bought the long tubes and they are even better.I like that they are black. I am sad they are so expensive.

My best summer purchase
These barriers are lightweight, easy to arrange and totally effective in keeping heavy rains from seeping under my back door and soaking my carpet. What a relief to NOT have to get up in the night to check for water then wet-vac, mop or squeeze out protecting towels. Thanks from my mind and body!
