About This Product

This product is applied before drywall, it is a light duty residential solution for blocking sound between rooms. Once mineral wool insulation is in place (purchase separately) - peel off protective film from tape at top of roll (make sure not to pull off the adhesive when removing the protective film) and press in place. It will hold in place while you add staples or self tapping screws (metal studs). This product works in commercial jobs only when metal studs are used. Quiet Wall is made from EVA Vinyl which is a safe plastic used in medical devices and food packaging. Laboratory test results show that Quiet Wall blocks airborne noise (voices and music) better than other equivalent mass loaded vinyl. Since 2010 more than 7 million square feet of EVA acoustic material has been installed in homes and businesses.

Q:What tape works well with this product? Please don’t say duck tape- it dries out/breaks down.

Answer This Question

A:  We recommend sheathing tape with an acrylic adhesive - duct tape typically has a rubber-based adhesive, which will break down.

Q:Can this be glued onto drywall and then covered with ship lap or vinyl flooring with a cork back

    Answer This Question

A:  This product is heavy; I recommend attaching it as the directions say. You will get the best results by filling the wall cavity with mineral wool. Covering this product is key since it does not have a UV inhibitor.

Don't waste your time and money. This product does practically nothing to reduce noise levels coming through a wall. I spent quite a lot of time and money on this stuff, and it proved to be useless. First I installed fiberglass insulation which is supposed to be a sound barrier as well. Next I hung this rubber sheet from floor to ceiling, using galvanized roofing nails (the recommended staples didn't go through). Then I installed drywall on both sides of my new wall, taped & floated with joint compound, primed and painted. Even with all those layers, I can still hear my little dog sniffing at me through the wall. I would return it for a refund, but that would mean tearing my wall apart and practically rebuilding the entire thing. If you do decide to waste your time and money on this, be sure to have two friends help lift this stuff while you nail it onto your frames. It's quite heavy and will rip holes if you try to do it yourself.

Here's a better Sound proofing alt
Simply build 2 separate insulated walls leaving a 1"-2" void between them. Sheetrocking the 2 middle/inside walls isn't even necessary. If you choose to, you can sheetrock the center. It will sound proof room a little more, just make sure to separate the walls by another inch or more to account for the rock. The void is the crucial element in sound proofing not layers

I paid a lot of money to have a contractor install this product with drywall over the top of it and got next to nothing as far as soundproofing improvements. Very, very disappointing.

            Sound acts like water
Think of sound as like water. It flows through tiny cracks, holes and gaps. The quality of sound reduction is limited by the fit and finish of the materials and sealant on any edges. A "sound proofing" wall is only as good as the way it meets the floor, ceiling and adjacent walls, and only as good as they are.
