Can I put this under OSB sub floor for what will ULTIMATELY be a tile floor? The layers would be: wooden planks (old house), 5/8” osb, ditto, and tile. It would be under the OSB which the tile would adhere to with ditro.

Could you please advise? I'm installing engineered wood flooring with underlayment. There is a gap between the floor and the wall that I want to fill with foam. Which foam would you recommend for maximum sound insulation?

            Answer This Question

We don't recommend filling that space. That space allows airflow under the floor and that is how our products are able to manage moisture and protect the overlying floor covering.

My Condo Association requires that we use an underlayment with IIC and STC ratings of 70 or more when tested on 6 “ concrete with ceiling assembly. Which underlayment meets that criteria and can be used under Luxury Vinyl Plank?

This will be a go-to for all my flooring installs
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a fantastic quality product. I use this now for all types of floor installation. I needed this in order to help dampen impact noise between my floor and my downstairs neighbor when I put in the landing at the top of my stairs. These are incredibly old stairs and the house has not been maintained well before I owned it. This product was a silver bullet. You get what you pay for here as you’re getting sound dampening, an underlayment that softens your walk, and a vapor barrier. Couldn’t be easier and the instructions that come with it are perfect. Love that there’s not too much waste in the packaging either.

                    Reliable and reasonable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is easy to install, rolling out smoothly with a built-in moisture barrier. It provides good noise reduction, making footsteps quieter and reducing echoes. The durability is solid, as it doesn’t tear easily during installation. It works well with laminate and engineered hardwood floors, but for solid hardwood, results may vary. However, the thickness is a bit less than expected, offering moderate cushioning. While it’s a great choice for sound absorption and moisture protection, those needing extra padding might prefer a thicker option.

                      It’s okay
This underlayment is a good budget option for adding a little sound damping under LVP. However, it didn’t help much under our laminate floor and definitely didn’t dampen the sound of the upstairs flooring from downstairs. The most recent roll we purchased had melted seam plastic (assuming it’s from the shrink wrap process?) so we had to buy tape for the seams and I don’t think the width is straight because it didn’t line up quite right.

Very easy to install and made the sound of the walk solid, in other words no echo which is a very big plus! So far it’s a great product we installed it on a mobile home wood floor about 6 weeks ago and just finished installing our vinyl floor and it’s amazing!

                        Inconsistent quality of the rolls
No issues with underlayment characteristics, it works good for our floating bamboo flooring. The issue is the inconsistent quality of the rolls. We’ve got 6 rolls for the project and 3 of them had bald spots throughout the whole length of the roll.

                          Destroyed our vinyl floor
Home depot recommended this to us when purchasing Nighthawk flooring. Everyone said it was easy to work with, and they were right. They said I would love it, but after being told this is the reason my $4000 in flooring is falling apart under my feet, Im not loving it any longer. Now we have a busted floor, and no one will accept responsibility.

                            Great Quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This flooring underlayment is such great quality. Not only is it easy to use and install but it has so many additional great features. With the vapor barrior it is great for sound suppression making it very quiet which I like. I also love the moisture protection since I am using it on a cememnt floor. I always worry about moisture when put flooring down. The best feature though is the compression resistance, so amazing. No more dips or impressions making it look horrible. All in all this is a very good quality product that I would highly recommend.

                              Almost easy
So I went with because of the thickness and review rating. Pretty easy to work but the adhesive is too far away from the edge for the plastic lip to adhere to it. Maybe I got a misaligned roll but the seams were flush and I had to stretch the plastic to get it to the adhesive strip, which caused the edges to overlap, so I had to forgo the "handy lip design."

                                "Quietwalk" is a misnomer
Replaced cheap plastic underlayment that was recommended by my installer, and installed Quietwalk in it's place. Unfortunately, Quietwalk is anything but quiet. The floor now has a distinct hollow sound, and if you're wearing shoes it sounds as if a parade of horses is walking through your home. Additionally, the floor now has a spongy feeling when walked upon vs the solid feeling in the rest of the home. The flooring visibly moves up and down vs no movement before. May end up replacing again.
