Can this be used to repair leaking mortar cracks on the back side of a stacked stone waterfall?

QUIKRETE® Fast Set Repair Mortar can be used to repair mortar cracks. If there is head-pressure behind the leak, we would recommend repairing with Hydraulic Water-Stop Cement instead.

Can this be used to reset several stones that have come loose from stacked stone siding?

Asked by Lonnie May 26, 2020

Answer

QUIKRETE® FastSet Repair Mortar is suitable for your application. Be certain to remove any loose mortar, dust and bond breakers before re-applying the stones. Mechanical fastening may be required until the Repair Mortar has set.

Can fast set repair mortar be used to fill in the gaps when shimming up a wood framed 20 x 16 garage mud sill plate?

Asked by Andy May 26, 2020

Answer

Neither of the products will bond to the sill plate; it will be easier to do the patch work with FastSet Repair Mortar than it would be with the Non-Shrink Precision Grout.

Can I use this repair mortar mix to bond the first course of concrete block to the concrete garage pad to build a concrete block wall?

Asked by JT May 8, 2020

Answer

The footer course of concrete block are customarily laid with masonry mortar, like QUIKRETE® Mason Mix. This product is preblended, requiring only the addition of water.

Would this be recommended for re-setting brick/stone? Does it need a bonding agent?

Answer

QUIKRETE® FastSet Repair Mortar can be used to re-set brick and stone. Alternately we recommend using QUIKRETE® Mortar Mix for this application. No bonding agent is necessary when re-setting brick and stone.

Product arrived ahead of scheduled delivery. Inside the tub, the mortar mix was separated into two plastic bags, I assume to help prevent moisture absorption. Mixed as instructed, and tried to use a grout bag to fix an old masonry hearth. Worked fine for a couple minutes, but stiffened up faster than I expected. The grout bag was useless at this point, so I troweled the rest. Product firmed up in about 15 minutes, so only mix what you can use in 10 minutes. No one around me sells concrete coloring anymore, so I crushed and mixed in some charcoal to darken the mortar. Didn't darken enough and the repaired mortar stands out from the old, but as I only fixed the hearth until I can replace it, I'm pretty happy with the results.

I needed to re-attach decorative tiles that were hanging vertically off the end of an outside deck. They were 3" x 12" tiles so my worry was that gravity would have an impact when reinstalling them. With some online research, this product seemed to be the best one for this task so I bought it. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Since this has a limited working time of about 15 minutes, it was great that I could mix small batches as my repair required positioning and repositioning of a latter making it impossible to make all the repairs in one batch. My first batch was mixed to a consistency of peanut butter and when the tile was placed, gravity had no affect. My second batch mixed to a consistency of mayonnaise and, in this case, gravity tried to pull the tiles down. But by physically holding them in place and/or a little help from some masking tape, they held just fine. In the end, all re-attached tiles (probably about 12) held firm within 30 -40 minutes. This was a great solution.

I used this on my concrete stoop so it was a vertical application. Followed the directions and i was very pleased with the results. I would recommend only working in small areas as they are not lying it does set fast so do not mix too much at once. It can be "molded" as it states which was helpful in filling in hard to reach places using a putty knife or trowel. I also used quikrete bonding adhesive and quikrete crack filler. before applying this product. Product comes dry in 2 separate bags and i used all of it on a roughly 10' X 4' X 20" high stoop. I'll have to see how it holds up after a harsh winter but as for now product as advertised.
