    Q:Can you reset brick steps
    by|Oct 7, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  QUIKRETE FastSet Repair Mortar can be used to replace a single brick, but is not really suitable for brickwork. This product sets very fast and will not match surrounding mortar. We recommend QUIKRETE Mortar Mix T-N for your project instead.

Q:Can this be used as a total covering of aging porch steps? Some damage fixes, but also just as a total new coating? Thanks!
      by|Sep 29, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  The high strength that makes QUIKRETE FastSet Repair Mortar such a good patching material makes it unsuitable as a coating. It will tend to crack if applied to a large area. We recommend QUIKRETE Re-Cap Concrete Resurfacer as a coating instead.

Product arrived ahead of scheduled delivery. Inside the tub, the mortar mix was separated into two plastic bags, I assume to help prevent moisture absorption. Mixed as instructed, and tried to use a grout bag to fix an old masonry hearth. Worked fine for a couple minutes, but stiffened up faster than I expected. The grout bag was useless at this point, so I troweled the rest. Product firmed up in about 15 minutes, so only mix what you can use in 10 minutes. No one around me sells concrete coloring anymore, so I crushed and mixed in some charcoal to darken the mortar. Didn't darken enough and the repaired mortar stands out from the old, but as I only fixed the hearth until I can replace it, I'm pretty happy with the results.

I needed to re-attach decorative tiles that were hanging vertically off the end of an outside deck. They were 3" x 12" tiles so my worry was that gravity would have an impact when reinstalling them. With some online research, this product seemed to be the best one for this task so I bought it. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Since this has a limited working time of about 15 minutes, it was great that I could mix small batches as my repair required positioning and repositioning of a latter making it impossible to make all the repairs in one batch. My first batch was mixed to a consistency of peanut butter and when the tile was placed, gravity had no affect. My second batch mixed to a consistency of mayonnaise and, in this case, gravity tried to pull the tiles down. But by physically holding them in place and/or a little help from some masking tape, they held just fine. In the end, all re-attached tiles (probably about 12) held firm within 30 -40 minutes. This was a great solution.

          Very nice product
I used this on my concrete stoop so it was a vertical application. Followed the directions and i was very pleased with the results. I would recommend only working in small areas as they are not lying it does set fast so do not mix too much at once. It can be "molded" as it states which was helpful in filling in hard to reach places using a putty knife or trowel. I also used quikrete bonding adhesive and quikrete crack filler. before applying this product. Product comes dry in 2 separate bags and i used all of it on a roughly 10' X 4' X 20" high stoop. I'll have to see how it holds up after a harsh winter but as for now product as advertised.

After the fast set dries it begins to turn orange and continues to get darker. After using this product th first time and saw the change in color, I read on the internet that the orange and yellow colors will go away in time so I continued repairing the joints in my 3/4” slate patio and walk ways. My slate patio and walks are aesthetically ruined, I bon’t think the color will ever look like dried mortar or concrete.
