I have a 14 year old 2 flu chimney and much of the cap was cracking. I removed all the old mortar and in doing so, 3 or 4 bricks became loose. I am going to use the sand/topping #1103 mix along with the fortifier #8610 to cap off the top of a chimney. Can I remove the loose bricks, remove the old mortar and use this sand/topping mix with the fortifier to reinstall the bricks then cap the chimney?
Asked by: RT
That would probably work good. If it were me, I’d recommend buying 3 or 4 tubes of the 10oz Quickrete mortar repair since you only have a few bricks to replace. It’ll be easier to handle, no mixing required, and costs less than $3 a tube. Hope this helps.

can I use this for a shower floor?

I would like to use a smooth concrete to finish my shower floor. What product would be best and will I need to seal it ?
Asked by: rixlake
I know this is an old post, but just in case anyone else is wondering... You have to make a 'pre slope' - the use a PVC pan liner- the make actual slope, then lay thinset - then tile Deck mud is porous on purpose, so If/when water seeps though your grout, it hits the pan liner (which is sloped by the 'pre-slope') and water is drawn to the weep holes in your drain. The actual slope is for your tile, so water is drawn to the drain when you are taking a shower. both pan slopes should be made out of 'deck mud' this is 5 parts sand 1 part portland cement. A 30 lb bag of sand can be added to to a 60lb bad of quikrete sand/ topping mix to achieve a 5:1 ratio. Look up a product called 'quick pitch', That's what I used on my first bathtub to tiled shower remodel. plenty of youtube videos that demonstrate how to use this system.

can i use thos as jointing sand in pavers

Asked by: matt
You have a novel idea to use Quikrete for joints in pavers. I see no reason why it wouldn't work that way: there is plenty of sand aggregate in the mix to get into and fill the joint. And the cement content may just hold the aggregate in place. Give it a try and let us know how it turned out..

Can i use it for tile installation?

Asked by: Javier
QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix is not designed for use as a thinset mortar for tile applications. A thinset mortar should be utilized for laying the ceramic tile. Custom Building Products makes many different tile products that may suit your needs. You may call Custom Building Products directly at 1-800-272-8786.
