QUIKRETE® Quik-Tubes are wax-lined cardboard building forms. They are not designed, and are not evaluated for water-repelling capacity.

Is a 10" tube sufficiently wide for installing 3"W x 8'H metal chain link fence posts (6' above ground) with 3 wood runners and wood pickets or would the 12" tube be required to provide the necessary support?

QUIKRET® cannot provide structural engineering recommendations. We recommend contacting a design professional in your area familiar with local building codes. Once the installation design is established, we will be glad to recommend products which will fill your requirements.

Can you use the "FOR SETTING POSTS" (i.e. "no-mix") installation method for chain link fence posts with these forms as opposed to a pre-mixing install? I would typically not need the forms, but need to install these posts slightly above-ground.

        Answer This Question

QUIKRETE® QUIK-Tube® Building Forms are not suitable for dry-placement installations as the tubes are was coated and will not permit water transfer to and from the surrounding soil to ensure proper curing.

About 20 years ago I was building a covered front porch on my house, which was located on a barrier island. The inspector would not approve footings made with the tubes. It would be best to contact your county or town for advice on your project.

How many bags of cement do I need on a 10? x 48? tube

              Answer This Question

It depends if you’re putting anything in it, like a fence post or something. But if you’re using it for a deck footer then the 12” took a little over (2) 80 lb bags if I recall correctly. So the 10” would probably take a little less than (2) 80 lb bags.

              By|Mar 11, 2023

Just did two 10” tubes…full 48” and 3 - 80 lb bags each was plenty.

Ten-inch QUIKRETE® Quik-Tubes require one 80-pound bag of QUIKRETE® Concrete Mix per foot of depth. Yields will vary with waste, uneven subgrade, etc.

If an inch or two of the tube ends up above ground, can it be easily cut away from the concrete footing after a week or so giving the concrete ample time to set?

We cut them into 12" lengths and stack into an enclosed area to create a " cubby" section for shoe storage. Their circumference is large enough to accommodate several pairs of shoes inside each section. In winter I use one section for hats and mitts ect....

                          Works well, but size varies.
Good product, but be aware that the size is not exactly 10". It varies from tube to tube by as much as 1-1/2".
