          Answer This Question

Porous walls must be pre-wet prior to application of QUIKWALL® SBC to avoid water being withdrawn from the mixture. Premature drying on the wall will prevent proper hydration. For further assistance please call technical services at 1-800-282-5828

I'm repairing spalled concrete steps, where all deteriorated concrete is being removed. Surfaces need 2-3" and corners are gone. I am thinking of placing forms over what is left and pouring Surface Bonding cement with bonding admixture.
            ByJun 3, 2024
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Quikwall Surface Bonding Cement can only be applied at a maximum depth of 1/2” and is for vertical applications only. At 2-3” you will need concrete with an aggregate, such as our yellow bag Concrete Mix, to achieve desired results. For further assistance please call the technical center at 1-800-282-5828

after applying a bonding agent to the surface. Can I add a fortifier to the mortar mix?
              ByApr 12, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

When using the Quikwall Surface Bonding Cement the Concrete Acrylic Fortifier is a good choice for rehabilitation of damaged concrete and masonry walls. We suggest a 50:50 mixture of QUIKRETE Concrete Acrylic Fortifier and water. Add 0.5 gal of Concrete Acrylic Fortifier per 50 lb. bag. Please call Quikrete Customer Support for more product information (800)-282-5828.

We used to go over cement block wall that is 59 years old. The fibers in the cement are impressive. We added the bottle of acrylic adhesive to each bag which I discovered was needed by talking with a Quikrete rep. We used the color additive charcol. We applied 3 coats about 1/8 inch each. Time will tell how well it holds up in northern Michigan. There are white areas in the finished wall and I’m hoping they are tannins coming to the surface and will fade at some point. I know the color was mixed well so that’s not the problem. I don’t see an option to add a photo or I would.

                  Great product!
During covid, I, and much to the dismay of my husband, decided to take on an enormous project of redoing our backyard. I knew I wanted to put in a retaining wall to add more entertaining space but I wasn’t a fan of the standard landscaping blocks and wanted something a bit more modern so I did some research and lucky found this product! The retaining wall we built was 3 feet tall and 60 feet wide. We purchased roughly 9 bags and only needed 7 total. The purchasing of the product was a bit of a nightmare as only one HD in the Denver metro area carries this item and they were unable to find the hidden pallet so my online pickup order was delayed for almost 3 weeks. We applied the product in the middle of July and due to the dry heat and 90°+ temps we gradually added more water to ensure it didn’t dry out while applying it. Overall I’m really happy with the retaining wall and Quikrete product.

I have been using this product for about 25 years. There is no other product on the market that I know of that works like surface bonding compound.Unlike concrete mix, surface bonding compound can be applied on a vertical surface. It adheres to anything and bonds solid like concrete. In the photo, the surface bonding compound is covering the pressure treated wood on the two sides and the bottom. I was told at Home Depot it is now discontinued, Do you have another product that works similarly? I will need more in the future and not happy with the fact it is being discontinued.

This was my first time using the product. It was fairly easy to mix and apply to the wall which would give it 5 stars however I had an issue with the color. If you do not get the bags from the same pallet, you run the risk of having different shades of white. Quikrete told me "the product can change in color depending on where the plant got its raw material from for that week." This is not written anywhere! You can tell by the photo that it's entirely noticeable and "there isn't any thing we [Quikrete] can do about the color difference." Not sure if anyone else has had this issue. Home Depot only sells white Quikwall or else I would have thought I bought a different color! The wall is an eyesore now and the Company refuses to make note or take ownership of the issue. Thanks Quikrete.

Excellent Product; Easy Application by Hand for Stone Wall Repair
I have used this product to repair and waterproof an old leaking stone foundation. What I particularly like about the product is its ease of application. The fibrous texture allows for it to be picked up by the handful and pushed into the gaps between the stones. Given the rough texture of the aging stone wall, applying by trowel would have been difficult to impossible. The application by hand worked brilliantly. After filling the gaps, I then applied a surface coat, again by hand, over the entire wall surface. I had enhanced the water resistance with an alkaline fortifier additive, which, along with two coats of a waterproof paint, have created a perfectly waterproof wall. The repaired would have been an attractive, rustic looking wall if it had remained above grade. I heartly recommend this product for stone wall repairs and suggest you get your hands into the application; you'll be surprised how easily the product can be applied.

                    Fantastic Product
I own a 100 year old house with a fieldstone foundation that has definitely seen better days. What started as a simple basement cleanup project turned into a full, seven month foundation rehabilitation once I began banging on the old waterproofing and mortar with a hammer and saw the horrendous condition. After the mortar removal, I used quick setting cement to plug all the holes and rebuild the window sills. Then I coated the entire foundation, inside and out, with surface bonding cement. Finally, I painted the cement inside and out with waterproofing, mildew resistant paint. While extremely labor intensive, this product made all the difference in the world turning a crumbling foundation into one solid rock hard mass. I used to run a dehumidifier practically 24/7 in my basement and now it is bone dry. I actually enjoy going downstairs and the exterior looks fabulous.
