Questions & Answers

Does this saw move up and down to make a cut in the center of the tile.

Asked by: Bar1
Yes, this saw/motor moves up and down to make punch cuts. The great thing about the 8" saw (R4040S) versus the 7" (R4030) tile saw, is that once the lock screw is loosened the motor, being under spring (upward) tension, automatically swinging motor-blade into position for punch-cutting which user pulls down (against spring tension) when aligned up and ready for doing punch-out cut. This was one of several main reasons I boxed-up and returned the 7" to Home Depot (Love my Home Depot), for when doing punch cuts, the user would have to physically have to lift and hold dead-weighted motor up until tile was aligned and ready to cut. Then when ready to punch-cut, physically hold weight of motor and saw up, turn saw on, and freely ease blade down using it;s own weight to cut material(s). If several cuts and cuts are tedious, this poor design on the 7" can be very frustrating. Whatever you do, after you've lifted the motor for a punch cut, don't accidentally let go of the saw motor handle, the full motor and saw weight will fall hard down onto your material. Very poor design and engineering on Ridgid's part on the 7". I had purchased a Ridgid 7" Tile Saw (R4030), after 2 weeks of was very disappointed due to numerous issues. So, I boxed 7" up and returned it to Home Depot and decided to bite the bullet spending additional $~150.00 to purchase the 8"which right out of the box, compared to the 7" tile saw it was night and day. I have cut tile non-stop on the 8" tile saw and for 3-1/2 weeks, and I love everything about it. There were so many nuances and issues on the Ridgid 7" tile saw, that could have been resolved so easily and relatively cheaply, too! Most of the wishes for the 7" were effectively designed and engineered to include out of the box on the 8". If trying to decide between the two (7" & 8"), by all means spend the extra $ and buy the 8"! You will not regret! It is a great and true cutting tile saw!!!

is this covered by lifetime service agreement ?

Asked by: thad
Yes. I have personally registered more than 10 Ridgid tools and have never had any issues. The easiest way to register is by going online here ( https://register.ridgidpower.com/register ) to sign-up for an account. Buy your Ridgid tools at Home Depot, and use the receipt to register the tool online after logging-in to your account.

12 Amp Corded 8 in. Wet Tile Saw with Stand is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 276.

I am a 3rd generation carpenter who, several times a year, will take on a tile job. In my workshop I use several Rigid tools (table saw, oscillating edge sander etc) so when my old wet saw gave up the ghost, I decided to purchase the 8-inch Rigid Wet Tile Saw. After a few tile cuts, I felt right at home - like I'd been using the saw for years. My cuts are super clean, and with the lazer feature there's no longer a need to mark every tile - just measure and cut. The saw is much lighter weight than my old saw too. The motor bogs down slightly if you are trying to cut thicker tile on one pass, but I always make a shallow cut first - so for me it's no problem. If you are planning to cut thicker/denser materials, you might want to consider Rigid's 10-inch Beast. The lifetime warranty is a HUGE PLUS, but I have seen comments regarding discontinued parts, so do your research. If you are a tile setter who is planning on using this saw daily - this might not be the saw for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good tile saw, except... This tile saw is rated to be able to rip 24" long tile. While the distance from the backstop of the sliding table to the front edge of the blade is indeed more than 24", the table itself is only 13.5", leaving at least ten inches of tile hanging out in space when you make a rip cut. This is fine for ripping a square tile since there is alot of material to support that overhang. Unfortunately, ripping a very expensive 24" bullnose which is barely 4" wide to begin with seems no small risk of snapping the tile in half. I thought I'd use a piece of Hardibacker underneath the tile for support, but the backstop is only about 3/8" high so that the back edge of the bullnose piece will not be against the backstop. There should have been a removable piece of the backstop about five inches wide so that one could begin the cut with the skinny tile hanging out the back but against the angle stop until the cut is half made, then reinstall (with two Allen screws) the backstop and complete the cut that way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good saw, but know it's limitations I saw another review that will look very much like this one. Overall, this a good tile saw for the money. There are a lot of well thought-out features and it has held up pretty well in the 6 months that I have owned it. The only problem so far has been with the table length when cutting 24" long tiles. There is a lot of tile left hanging out over space during the cut. The saw blade wants to push this overhang down and more than one tile has been snapped because of it. I finally came up with a solution to brace the tile in this situation, but it sure slows me down. Another professional might think twice before getting this saw and if I were doing tile full time, I would also. However, it is a great saw for a DIYer or a professional who is only laying tile now and then. And it it is a nice improvement from the model that Rigid had before. At the end of the day, I still recommend this saw.

Breakdown for cleaning and storage is an ease. The 12 amp motor is powerful enough for my projects around the house. I'm currently adding a paver sidewalk in the backyard, the Ridgid Tile Saw's portability and power keeps me working through the project with quick and reliable cuts. The price for the tool seems about right for the size and strength, but the life-time warranty was a bonus I wasn't expecting while I was shopping for a tile cutter.

I am very impressed with this saaw and it capabilities. 8 inch blade is kinda an oddball size but it give a substantial amount of increased diamond cutting area compared to the 7 inch blade. I expect this blade to last quite abit longer. I have used an MK saw with a 7 ich blade for the last 25 year

It was easily assembled in about 10 minutes and ready to go. My only complaint is that the miter gauge is considerably off. Other than that, I’m very happy to have it for a second saw.
