My inflator seems to be leaking air inside the tool. My tires are actually deflating. I don’t have any warranty. Should I take it apart and see if I can see a hole in the hose?
    BySep 6, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Hello, Chuck - No, please do not take the inflator apart. Inflator service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. If it is leaking, we recommend that you stop using it; do not continue to use an inflator or hose that leaks. Before assuming an internal failure, make sure all hose connections are tightly secured, as loose attachments can cause air leaks and faulty readings. If you need further support, then feel free to ask another question. Do you have to have the battery installed, or can it work just using plugged into the car adapter? I have the rigid battery, but I’m concerned about always having that charged, if I want to keep this in the car for emergency use

I have a problem with the plastic chuck leaking quite frequently when installed. Disappointed with the design, feel like it should be Schrader brass valve like your top model has . Any suggestions please? Prefer not to discard or give away

                Answer This Question

I also have a problem with the plastic chuck connector (it actually broke), without which the entire unit is useless. Apparently, I failed to "register" the tool within 90 days of purchase (it was a gift) and it's 5-6 years old, so I'm out of luck!

Works except WON'T work with the 12V cigarette plug adapter
Works well with a battery however filling / topping off 4 tires (5 lbs each) uses most of a 2mh battery. FAILS when trying to use the 12v cigarette plug or even a 120v to 12V adapter. I thought I had a defective unit and sent it back. To their credit, they sent me a new one but that wouldn't work with the 12V cord either. Very disappointed that if I get stuck and don't have a charged battery, it would be useless.

The portable inflator is used to charge an air cannon used for tree work. The inflator is very quick for my purpose. The ability to set the desired pressure is VERY useful and quite accurate. Battery life is amazing as I use a 2 amp hour battery. The pneumatic air cannon is used to launch an arborist throw bag with attached throw line into a tree, which is then used to hoist a rope into the tree. I would recommend this Ridgid cordless portable inflator.

This is an excellent tool. I am using some of my Home Depot perks to purchase another one. These are small enough to keep in the car incase you get a flat. I also keep tire plugs with me. Our family members have two Teslas and they don’t come with spares so if you get a flat on the road, you either have to get towed or you can fix the tire yourself once it’s fixed you need to inflate it and these are compact and the battery that comes with it holds a charge for a long time. You can also use the battery on all of your other Ridgid Tools make sure you register within the 90 day window and the whole tool battery and charger is covered for life. It also has a few different attachments for pool toys, air mattresses, and things like that. It is also fairly quiet. I have the bigger Ridgid inflator that I keep in the garage and it is louder.

I purchased the RIDGID 18V Cordless Portable Inflator Kit with the 2.0 Ah battery and charger, and it has exceeded my expectations. It is compact, easy to use, and inflates tires quickly and accurately. The digital pressure gauge is easy to read, and the automatic shutoff feature helps prevent overinflation. The included battery provides plenty of runtime, and the portability makes it convenient for keeping in my vehicle, garage, or workshop. Overall, this is a well-built, reliable tool that offers excellent performance and value. I highly recommend it for anyone needing a dependable cordless inflator.

Love this little thing. No instruction required. Just pop a battery on it and go manual or automatic by presetting the pressure.

This Air Compressor is Remarkable. I have air compressors for various uses. I have a 2 hp 20 gallon for shop tools like grinders and impacts and I have mini compressors for carpentry finishing tools like 16,18,and 23 guage brad nailer. Of course, all my compressors have the tire fill adapters. But this Ridgid 18v battery powered unit has taken the task of filling tires to an all time Easy-Peaze level. Starting from the tire fill valve, the Ridgid inflator has a valve adapter that slides on and locks on so all you need to do is set the desired pressure and tap the trigger. The inflator starts up and runs until the desired pressure is hit. Than it shuts off. You do not need to hold the trigger while filling. You do not need to stop it when the desired pressure is injected, it does it all. This is absolutely easy and pretty fast. I have used this on my 1/2 ton truck, tire pressure 35lbs. I have used it on my truck load air bags, 20lbs, and I have just used it on my travel trailer tires that take 65lbs. I highly recommend this inflator. And best yet is the TOOL IS GUARRENTEED FOR LIFE! You must register it with Ridgid after you buy it which can be a bit of a hassle but it is great and the pressure regulator is right on thr money. I have Dewalt battery tools in my work shop and started buying the Ridgid tools when I was traveling in my travel trailer to fix the incidental on the trailer that needed maintenance on the road. These Ridgid tools are as good or better than my Dewalt.

I have 2 of these inflators, one in each car, as most new cars do not have a spare tire. Super easy to use and can be used with the battery or can be plugged into the cigarette lighter. It's one of the only portable inflators that has 2 power sources. Lifetime warranty is an added bonus.

                      Air chuck fit fixed!
Bought this awhile ago with my Home Depot’s points as I always do. I also buy ridgid because of the warranties it offers. I was happy with this in the beginning but didn’t use it much so now since we have a slow leak in tire on car and new eBikes I’m suing quite often. The chuck on high pressure hose is wonky. In other words it’s not easy at all to slip on valve stems and based on other reviews I see why. Since I’m a handy guy I decided to investigate further and decided to purchase a separate air chuck to attach to existing. Overall the design for this air inflator is a bad design and a simple $7 fix works like a charm. If they only designed the unit this way in beginning g it would work for almost anything.
