My flap disk grinder w/brass handle
I had to buy a MAX Output 18v battery. All of my older batteries would not last but less than a minute. Now run just fine for my welding projects.

Not Up to the Job and Bested by a $25 Corded Grinder
I purchased this 18v 4.5 inch Grinder and $12 diamond blade to cut an old 6 inch pipe. I went through both my full high capacity batteries and the pipe was winning. I proceeded to take out my old $25 corded 4 inch grinder with a $2 blade and 100 feet of extension cord. My old grinder and cheap blade made short work of the task. I attempted to return online, but was given an error code. I recommend buying a corded tool if possible even if you need to use a generator to power it in a remote location.

Been doing some renovations lately and adding some new tools to the arsenal. Had heard good things about the Ridgid brand and the Lifetime Service Agreement as well. This is now the 6th Ridgid tool I have bought in the last several months and I have been impressed with all of them: build quality, features, tool performance and value proposition. This grinder and a JobMax multi-tool were part of an Octane promotion and was free with the purchase of two drivers and two batteries. Just started using the grinder, but really happy with my purchase and the knowledge that the LSA is there if needed going forward. Definitely recommend!

Ethics disclosure: Ridgid was kind enough to send out this grinder ahead of release for testing and review. However, I am not paid and I am under no obligation to give a positive review. the thoughts expressed are my own opinion based on factors such as price, performance, ergonomics, and value.
Let me start with ergonomics. This grinder has a much better feel in the hand compared to the previous model, thanks to a much slimmer main grip and more rubber overmolding around the gripping area. Over extended grinding and wire wheeling jobs you'll enjoy the extra comfort.
Power is quite impressive and is far better than the previous model. It has plenty of power to cut full depth in solid steel, cut rebar with ease, flat stock, angle iron, round stock, and small pipe.
Runtime is decent for the power output and you can expect between 13-20 minutes of grinding time on a 9ah Octane battery applying medium to heavy pressure.
Runtime when cutting rebar is excellent and you can expect somewhere around 110-120 cuts through 1/2" rebar on a 9ah Octane Battery.
Performance when using flap discs, as well as wire wheels is also also excellent and has plenty of power for both applications.
Concrete cutting performance is great as well and this grinder cuts through cinder block like butter when equipped with an abrasive concrete cutting disc.
Overall this new grinder is an excellent upgrade from the previous model in power and ergonomics. At the same pricing as the previous model, it's also a great value and it probably has the best power per dollar on the market.
I highly recommend this grinder to anyone who does some serious metal working and needs the flexibility of cordless and power of corded.

This grinder is just an awesome tool to have. I do a lot of wood carving, and this is the only grinder I reach for when starting a job.
The first thing that stands out when using this grinder is the OCTANE power. I can cut, grind or carve through anything without the loss of power as the smart batteries constantly supplies what it needs. Not only is it extremely powerful, the comfort of this in the hands is amazing. It allows for a solid grip in the tool because of the textured handle, and I don't have to worry about it slipping. It also conforms around the palm very nicely.
Another awesome feature that is simple, but appreciated is how easy it is to adjust the guard. I am constantly working at different angles, so to be able to push a button and adjust the guard position in seconds is awesome for me. One other thing I really like is the the lock button, and how easy it is to use when you tighten/loosen the disk
I really love this grinder, and it the only one I use now. Even carving with a King Arthur's chain wheel is awesome. Definitely give this a try!

A grinder is not something I use often in my shop but when I need one, this has been a great tool to have. I mostly use mine to cut metal or cut tile backing board. The new grinder has a removable filter cover so you can clean out the dust and small particulate that builds up at the base of the handle. Battery run time was always an issue with the older grinder but the new Octane platform has far exceeded my expectations when doing comparisons. Great product!

This is a solid angle grinder. It has an overload protection LED that flashes to let you know to ease up on the tool. I've only had this happen while using a flap disk to do some power carving in wood. However, I was putting tons of pressure on the tool to see what it'd take to have the overload come on.
Using a grinding disk, cut-off wheel, and wire wheel never made the over load LED come on. The tool is well balanced and has lots of power. I'd recommend this product without hesitation.

Very hard to turn on. And it is hard to lock the switch to stay on? Wish I would have ordered the one. With the paddle switch.
