18V SubCompact Brushless Cordless Barrel Grip Jig Saw (Tool Only)

This updated compact jigsaw is lighter and has an ergonomically designed barrel grip which gives you more control and more precise cutting. 7 Variable speed controls let you choose the speed for your application. It uses T-shank blades which require no screws or tools to attach like U-shank blades. There's always a project around the house that a jig saw will make easier. Our old corded jig was heavy and quite awkward to use. This Rigid jig is compact making it so easy to transport and store. I like that I can use it anywhere and don't have to worry about a power source. It has 7 speed modes allowing me to cut anything from wood to metals. This is my first barrel grip saw and it really made a difference in how the tool fit in my hand giving me more control when making precision cuts. I used it to cut out a few templates and it did a fantastic job. It was very comfortable and easy to maneuver. I especially like the blower vac mode and the ability to insert and eject blades in one touch without a wrench. This unit uses T-shank blades only. The Led light provided a good view of my cutting area. I was impressed with The Best Lifetime Service agreement that gives you free parts and service for life. I'm very happy with this tool and highly recommend it. As I've said before, if you need a good tool you need a Rigid, they have never disappointed me.

This is my fourth jig saw. I bought my first jig saw (a corded D-Handle) in college because it could cut just about anything--wood, metal, plastic or laminate for my school projects. After college I bought a corded Barrel-Handle jig saw because the ergonomics and accuracy were so much better with the hand down low around the motor instead of up high like the D-Handle style. Last year I got a cordless D-Handle and gave away my college jig saw. This new Ridgid 18V Subcompact Brushless Barrel Grip Jig Saw R86346B (tool only) outclasses them all feature versus feature. My main complaint about my previous (expensive) Barrel-Style Jig Saw was the lack of visibility of the cutting line. The Ridgid R86346B has a switch for "Blower Mode" that blows the dust forward/away from the cutting edge with every stroke. Alternatively, turn the Blower Mode off, connect the Dust Collection Vacuum Attachment and hook up to a Shop Vac. The connection was secure and didn't require an adapter for my standard vac. The R86346B has an LED light that shines down on the cutting edge. Nice. There are four Orbital Sawing Modes. Mode 0 is straight up and down. Mode 1 is Minimal, Mode 2 Medium, and Mode 3 is Maximum Orbital Stroke. Mode 3 is much faster and more aggressive, but left coarse blown-out edges on the top and bottom of the 3/4" plywood I was experimenting with. The Variable Speed Dial has 1-6 and an "A" (Auto) Mode that speeds up or slows down the stroke automagically. It works well, starting the cut slowly and ramping up when the CPU senses more resistance. Inserting/Removing Blades is tool-free and simple. Adjusting for a Bevel Cut requires loosening the Base Pivot Screw with the onboard-stored Hex Key. There are three détentes, 45 right, 0 and 45 left. The Ergonomics are right on. I prefer the Barrel Style. The R86346B has a better grip than my old one for both one-handed and two-handed operation. This is a Subcompact, Brushless, Cordless Model that is lighter, smaller and more powerful, yet easier to control. There is no issue with seeing the cut line. Best Jig Saw I've ever put my hands on. 5 Stars.

I received this barrel grip jigsaw from Rigid to review it. My favorite jigsaw when it comes to cutting curves and circles. The barrel grip allows you to position your hand and not be awkward when trying to turn it on your cuts. There’s no kickback cuts like butter and is super powerful even on a low speed. One thing I would say is if you’re not experienced with using a jig saw I don’t recommend this one for you, this is more advanced.

Cut a 3/4inch Aluminum Round Tubing full with Dowel 5/8 Hardwood and surprisingly smooth! Only using Ridgid Blade, Nice!
