A:  Hello PaulaP, Thank you for your inquiry about our products. Depending on what you are planning to pickup, there are 4 types of filters that you can use with your WD10600 vacuum. For standard or typical basement or garage dirt, you can use the VF4000. For fine dust, such as drywall or cement dust, you must have the VF5000. We also have a filter made of HEPA rated material known as VF6000. This filter is best recommended for picking up pollens and allergens. Lastly, we have VF7000 foam filter specifically designed only for liquid pick-ups or water-borne debris. These filters are regular items at the Home Depot stores. You can also order online at store.ridgid.com. If you have further questions or concerns, you may call Customer Service at 1-800-474-3443 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time or email us at info@ridgidvacs.com Thank you, RIDGID Customer Support

Q:Is there any difference in water holding capacity between the 16 gallon 6.5 hp motor on bottom design vs the regular 16 gallon 6.5 hp motor on top design? I suck up water frequently so I need to buy the model that holds more water.

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello VancouverStew, Thank you for your inquiry about our products. If you will fill up the drum with liquid manually it can with hold 16 gallon of water for both of the vacuum. However, if you are vacuuming up liquid, it will reach a pre determined level and when reached a certain level it will stop the suction. It will be indicated with a different sound that will be coming from the vacuum and the vacuum should be shut off and empty the drum of the vacuum. That pre determined level depends on how close the float on the bottom of the drum, and since the motor on the bottom have the float on the bottom of the drum it will rise sooner than the one the have the motor on the top. If you have further questions or concerns, you may call Customer Service at 1-800-474-3443 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time or email us at info@ridgidvacs.com Thank you, RIDGID Customer Support

Be careful - the latches/handles snap off!
I purchased the 10-gallon stainless WD1060 vacuum. I was handing the vacuum down from an attic opening with my friend below. The vacuum had bacteria (Zoogloea) laden water inside as I have just sucked out an air conditioner drain line that was completely clogged. As I was lowering the vacuum down through the attic hatch, with my friend holding the vacuum from below, the plastic latch/ handles gave out and the drum crashed down onto the stepladder, tilted over, splashed the contents (which is fairly disgusting) all over my friend and then down onto the hallway carpet. Quite the disgusting mess and my friend drenched.... Looking at the design of the handles, it is VERY easy for the handles to pop off of the very small round plastic pins when there is some weight in the drum. The handles do not lock in on the pins (they slip on) and look like they are designed more for easy assembly at the factory than ensuring something like what happened to us doesn't ever happen. I probably had two gallons of water in the vacuum, so not that heavy, but not that light either. Very disappointing design. I modified the handles by drilling a pilot hole into the round pins and adding a washer and screw to lock in the latches. After adding the screws I filled the drum with water up to the vacuum hole and I could lift the vacuum by the handle securely. The latch/handle is OK being plastic, but the other parts should be metal. I have added pictures of how I added the screws. I used 3 drill bits to make the hole to make sure I didn't split the plastic.

Why are all RIGID dusting brushes terrible?
My 14 gallon RIGID wet/dry vac came with a pair of triangular dusting brushes as part of their "Premium Car Cleaning Accessory Kit". They clean adequately, but were designed with a hard plastic lip around the inlet that functions like a whistle. They're so incredibly loud in use that I have to use hearing protection. Their high-pitched scream bothers anyone in my home, no matter how distant they are from the thing I'm cleaning. I finally broke down and bought this brush. It's whisper quiet in comparison, but was designed with a hard plastic ring inside that protrudes down over half the bristle length and drags against everything being cleaned. You're almost better off not using this brush at all and just dragging the bare hose end against your cleaning surface, since that plastic is softer and at least then you know exactly where you're scraping. The build quality is worse, too. The Premium Car brushes are loud, but their bristles stay put since they're inserted into the plastic itself, similar to how toothbrushes are constructed. This brush instead uses bristles crimped to a single long metal stamping that is gingerly placed within a grove in the plastic head; a light tug pulls the whole thing right out. I'm guessing they added the protruding internal plastic ring because the cheaper, poorly supported bristles can't keep the brush from collapsing under vacuum, but in doing so they turned their product into garbage. If you brace the bristles against the plastic protrusion with an appropriately sized worm clamp it bottoms out less, but it's also barely a brush at that point. Let's not even get into how the Home Depot website claimed to have 9 in stock at my local store (a 30 minute drive away), but actually had none. Do better, RIGID. I bought your brush to clean with, not as a project to fix.

The bristles are not thick enough so the hard plastic drags pretty easy. The whole reason I bought this was to protect things while vacuuming, but this brush attachment is almost pointless. I wish There was more options for brushes like this for Ridgid at the store, but this was all they had.

This brush fit my old Craftsman 2.5 inch hose very nicely (the ''locking" mechanism interferes with nothing). The bristles are just the right firmness to move and collect sawdust. I've only had it for a day but the basement looks better already and the brush still has all it's bristles.

Great cleaning accessory for corners. Bristle and supporting design make for excellent sweeping action. Soft when sweeping away from center and stiff when sweeping to center due to slotted design of inner support. Cleaned plaster dust and pieces from between boards and gap along wall and floor. Highly recommend. Lock fit was secure with slight twisting.

                        poor quality
The bristles are very weak and when vacuuming with it, the vacuum is stronger than the bristles making the hard plastic base of the brush drag across the item that you were trying to vacuum gently. Nearly useless. Unfortunately it’s the only brush option I see available for the Rigid vacuum with the 2.5 inch hose.
