It worked very well but I wish Home Depot carried the vacuum attachment. It is an extremely dirty process. We had dust everywhere. I used a paint respirator mask that saved my lungs. Home Depot didn’t have a proper dust mask. It took off a heavy layer of carpet adhesive with little effort. If you do use a vacuum attachment have plenty of extra filters the dust is extremely fine and plugs filters quickly.

My wife recently removed the tile from one of our bathrooms, about 70 sq ft worth. I looked at how to remove mortar on YouTube, and while a few people used "big blade" chippers or whatever they're called, it was a man-powered process that I wasn't interested in. A few other videos showed people using floor sanders with grinding wheels. I thought I'd try that with an angle grinder, as a floor sander is too hard to maneuver in a bathroom space. I've never owned an angle grinder, so I bought a basic Ryobi one (corded) for $35, and a 40 grit sanding wheel (not a grinding wheel, it looks like sandpaper flaps with large particles between them, for $9). It was really slow going, I think I did about 1 sq ft in an hour. I decided that was too slow, and the dust was becoming a problem. So I went back and looked at the diamond tipped grinding cup wheels. There are multiple sizes: 4.5in, 5in, 7in. The Ridgid wheels were slightly less expensive than the other brands HD had. The basic grinder could hold a 4.5in or a 5in, I opted for the 4.5in because the 5in barely fit inside the wheel guard. The wheels run from $48 for the 4.5in, $60 for the 5in and $70 for the 7in. (Note they all cost more than the grinder.) I also bought a universal dust shroud for $49 (again, more than the grinder. Don't remember the brand, but HD only had 1 choice for a 5in angle grinder). Turns out using the wheel was the way to go. I removed 69 sq ft of mortar in about 3 hours, and still got to watch Sunday Night Football. The only part left is a 3/4in strip along the walls, where the wheel won't reach because of the dust shroud. I will have to use a straight grinding wheel for that. The dust shroud helped with dust control, although not at the 90+% rate they claim. The shop vac filter gets clogged with dust about every 20 minutes, and has to be cleared, for the vacuum to suck up dust again. Without it though, it would have been a holy mess. With it I still had to clean up dust, but most of it vacuumed up after the work. The floor where I used the wheel is completely smooth, and ready for tile backer board to get installed. When we do the kitchen and breakfast area (about 300 sq ft) we'll be renting the floor sander with a diamond grinder, and I will use the angle grinder where the floor sander won't reach.

Needed it for a small job and it worked perfectly. Used it on a conrete floor hump, prepping the area for tile install. Be prepared for the dust! And be prepared for your wife to be mad at the amount of dust.
