I need to sand the painted edge of cabinet doors in order to refinish them. I am wondering about the suitability of this tool given the length of the doors. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

                    Bad dust collection port location
When I was shopping around for a replacement bench top belt sander I looked a few different options. I decided to go with the RIDGID oscillating edge belt sander mostly because of the dust collection port. Well, that was a bad way to make a decision. The p[ort connects just fine to my dust collector, however where the port is located and where the dust is supposed to come in is bad design. In short, it doesn't allow the dust collector to suck up the dust AT ALL. I ended up having to use some 2inch pipes and zip ties to place where the dust builds up, which is on the big end of the belt. There it sucks great, but the OEM location is just a waste of my electric. Other than that its a good machine and sands as its supposed to.

This thing is probably one of the coolest sanding devices ive ever worked with. Its like a belt sander, but put on its side and then it moves up and down. Pretty sweet just that, but then you can swap the belt sander for just a single spindle. And it goes up and down. I've sanded ALL kinds of stuff already. Chamfers and roundovers are clean and crisp now. Super stoked.

                      Improper machining of the spindle.
Just purchased one of these only to find (after unboxing) the spindle shaft threads to be improperly formed. I returned it for another but went through 4 more units with the same issue. I did not find a good one and had to get a refund. Obviously a manufacturing defect that has made it through. Upon reading these reviews I see one from Frederickton NB 7 months ago with the same issue and no response from Home Depot. Please respond to the issue.

Quality control is non-existent. Sad times...
I wanted a solid, mid-tier oscillating sander that would hold up to years of occasional abuse. Everyone seemed to recommend this sander. I was concerned about the armature shaft thread issues some of the more recent reviewers had, but I thought "Maybe just a fluke." Boy was I wrong. Started unpacking everything and the moment I removed the sleeve protecting the shaft, I saw what could only be the results of a drunken person trying to machine two different thread profiles onto an armature shaft. I immediately put everything back in the box and exchanged it for another one. The local Home Depot had two more in stock. I checked both boxes before leaving the store and one of them had the same exact issue while the other looked fine - clearly a machining error / something gone horribly wrong during the threading step. It's so obvious though; how do you miss that during inspection? The problem doesn't end there. Unboxed the new machine and noticed there was a weird oily residue all over the front plastic housing of the unit. While I was cleaning it off and trying to find the source (it looked like it was coming from the motor), I noticed the housing itself was cracked / broken! You've got to be kidding... I gave up and am just using it as is since the local Home Depot doesn't have any "good" models in stock. At least the motor sounds ok (for now). Something that was over $100 cheaper not that long ago and you're delivering this kind of product to customers? Shame on them... This is not a cheap piece of equipment by any means. I know it's not top of the line, but come on. Oh and one more thing, the folding portion of the table doesn't sit level with the other half; it's higher by roughly 2 mm / 3/32" or so. That doesn't seem like much, but the point of this is to make sure everything stays square with the sander, which this will allow the workpiece to pivot around. What a joke...

                          Thread issue
I purchased one a week ago and upon inspection, just like the guy in February, my spindle threads are stripped. I returned it to my store in Crystal River FL today and got another one. Brought it home and opened the box, the same exact thing, stripped threads. This is a factory/QC issue, not a customer returned a broken machine to Home Depot issue. Will be returning the machine tomorrow and go with another brand. I have several other RIDGID tools and am happy with the overall quality, but I will not accept this part as it is doomed to failure with repeated use.

                            Spindle stripped in the box
I'm not sure if the product is any good. I bought one from Fredericton NB store, spent an hour unboxing and setting everything up then, when putting on the first sanding drum, I noticed that the hold down knob wouldn't tighten far enough on the spindle. The spindle threads are stripped in two places. I'm not even sure how this could be done, but doesn't seem like something that would happen at the factory. The top of the box was taped but all the parts were sealed, so the most likely scenario is some else bought one, ruined the spindle and got a replacement at the store, then they put the ruined one back on this one and left it on the shelf for sale.

                                Nice
This is my first Ridgid product. Had it for 60 days. If this is a indication of the tools Ridgid putting out, I'm never buying the blue ones again. It's pricey for what i needed, well made, well thought out. I love all the storage and how everything has a place. Changing the belt for a drum is a breeze. Not hunting around the garage for stuff is a plus. I would love the price to be a little cheaper. I used it to make some 5" circles in plywood. Took me some practice. Just some guy in a garage.
